On this trip to Alaska we drove up the haul road and took three caribou, Two with rifle and one with archery. We covered 18 miles across the tundra on our 4 day hunt after these three bulls.

Thank you so much for keeping your video family friendly, for not using foul language, for being upbeat and grateful while still being realistic. It’s hard sometimes in today’s world to find programs whose content can be comfortably aired by all audiences, but this one fits that bill, entertaining and educational without unnecessary offensive language. I thank you, you can be certain we will be watching more of you videos in our home.

Great video! I've hunted along that road and made the 5 mile hike loaded down with the pack full. When ever I see a video from up there, it brings back memories of how hard the pack out is.

We’re glad you liked it! It’s definitely an adventure that you won’t forget if you do it! How was your trip? How long ago was it?

@@chasethehunt2187 it was a great hunt that we did 20 years ago. We started out bowhunting. Two of us still hadn't filled our tags with one day left to hunt, so we hiked the 5 miles off the road to rifle hunt. We ended up killing two bulls on that last day. Between 3 off us, we were able to get both bulls out in one trip. But it was a miserable pack out across that soft tundra.

That’s awesome! We’re you there later in the year when they were migrating? Back in the day non residents could hunt later into the year than we can now. The first time I went up there later in the year I couldn’t believe how many animals there were compared to this time!

@@chasethehunt2187 we were there in the beginning of September. We saw a lot of stalked a lot of Bull near the road and and 2 out of the 4 out filled tags with bows. I had always planned on going again, but never made it back.

You guys worked hard, got decent caribou.great trip and better than expected video. I, have seen some guys drag a large plastic sled out there, it seems to work a bit better than toting that weight thru the muskeg.
@chasethehunt21877 ай бұрын
We have hauled sleds when we hunted in the snow up there. It worked ok but with no snow I believe it is easier to haul them in a pack as long as it is a good pack but I have seen plenty of people go the sled route with no snow. To each their own no I guess. Glad the video was better than expected!

How close did you get to the first big bull with the bow? You guys WORKED for those bulls. CONGRATS all around.
@chasethehunt21878 күн бұрын
@@weekender38 our buddy with the bow couldn’t get within 90 yards. We had it at 60 yards but didn’t have the bow and we were obviously within 5 miles of the pipeline so we couldn’t shoot with a rifle. Ya, but that’s some of the funnest parts. It always adds to the experience when you have to work your butt off! Thanks!

One guy had Altra's, it's basically a running shoe/lightweight boot. The other guy had Crispi Laponia's. For gear, we mainly used Prym1 camo and Shiver shield. Hope this Help's

i never hunt trophies just for the meat , but if people do respect ---- wow just looked and yes 5 miles away from dalton hwy thats crazy here in michigan you can hunt right on the line along hwys lots more traffic here
@chasethehunt2187 Жыл бұрын
Yes, it's pretty unique the way they do that up there but at the same time it's nice because it keeps a lot of people near the road with archery equipment so when you do get out there you don't really see anyone else!

Great video, what month did you guys go? I want to get one with no velvet
@chasethehunt21876 ай бұрын
We were there in September. To get one with no velvet I would suggest as late in the season as possible. The first bull I shot was in October and it still had velvet so if you go in September there will still be bulls in velvet. But the non resident season doesn’t go into October anymore so ur stuck with September now

Congrats on the awesome bulls! I'm looking to hunt the haul road in 2023, what time of year was this hunt? And how far north of the pass were you?

Make sure you have gps, location device and hunt with more than one buddy because if anything happens to you in the North slope you won't get any help from North Slope authorities
