And a good time was had by all.I know how difficult it is to walk on the tundra and with added weight comes added problems. Congratulations on the video and the hunt.

Just came across your video. Would’ve loved to have done any hunting with my dad. Love hunting with my sons. Hopefully i can talk them into spending the money to go with me. Loved to see the lever action. I have a ‘94 my dad bought me for xmas present when I turned 18. Leverrevolution ammo is game changer

Best part of this hunt is the grey beards and the good relationship of a father and son. Does not get better. Well done.

Epic trip and great intel. Thanks for sharing! Did you have any issues renting the Suburban to drive the Haul road? Any exclusions or extra costs? Appreciate it!
@DamonBungard3 жыл бұрын
We did not have any rental issues. Think we used Enterprise at the time because they didn't have those restrictions like other rental agencies. You'd have to see what current restrictions are though as our trip was 6 years ago and things may have changed.

Did you see any bear ? I / we did a self guided hunt in Noatak in 95 for caribou. Only saw seven caribou the whole week close enough to think about shooting. One small bull and six cows. It was too warm, snowed the day we left. Day after we left the caribou started moving through the camp. I did get a 62 inch moose. High light was seeing a sow with three cubs at about 15 yards. They were feeding in a stream, we were above them on a bluff beside the stream. Great video.

We're preparing for a Haul Road hunt this fall and looking at bear fences; what brand/model is yours and how did you like it? Also, what ammo did you use in your .45-70? Awesome video, looking forward to seeing more!
@DamonBungard4 жыл бұрын
Our bear fence was from UDAP, and it worked well, although we never even saw any bears where we hunted. Did see a wolf. I shoot Hornady Leverevolution 325 grain in my 45-70

How did your tipi tent hold up? Did you get any crazy winds on the trip that made that Tipi want to blow over? We just booked a trip for next year and was thinking of taking two Tipi tents for the four of us. Awesome video and congrats and the great memories it looks like you made!
@DamonBungard3 жыл бұрын
we didn't have any problems at all with the tent withstanding winds. Just bring longer stakes that what generally comes with them to get good bite down deep in the tundra

What was the brand of tarp poles that you used? Myself and 3 others are headed to Kotzebue in Sept 2020. I like your system of hanging the meat.

Do you know a ball park figure on cost of the trip? Without fuel or plane ride there and back home of course.
@DamonBungard3 жыл бұрын
At the time of our hunt the transporter fee (pair of Super Cubs in and out) was $2500 per hunter. Figure another $1000 per week for a rental car. I usually estimate $750 for a flight from the lower 48 to Anchorage. All said and done (except taxidermy and meat shipping costs) I'd estimate around $5K.

Diy, lol if your a non resident you have to have a guide, or a resident in alaska.

non-residents do not need need a guide for caribou, deer, black bear and moose (some zones) in Alaska. Guides are only required for brown/grizzly bear, mountain goat and sheep.
