DIY Audio Amplifier Design #1 - Failure!

In this video, I go through prototyping of an audio amplifier using LM386 Audio Amplifier IC and fail miserably. Lets start a project to design something half decent!

The thumping of the batons on the instrument is going to be a problem it looks like!

Just not enough output from the speakers so mic is only picking up the mallet strike sound. The audio amplifier helped a little bit but nowhere near what I was expecting. I am designing (and making a video on) class d amplifier. Hopefully that works better!

What about putting a 4 ohm resistor in series with the speaker? Because I heard that 8 ohm speakers are better to drive

Thanks, I'll try it out. The datasheet does say it can drive a 4ohm load but who knows.

@@TheEngineeringExperienceYT Something I learned in my 35 years as an electronics engineer is to KEEP THINGS SIMPLE! Build something simple and conventional. Class D amps are a complicated mess to get going. Not recommended without lots of experience and having instruments to test the circuit.

I completely agree about keeping things simple. This is a learning thing for me so I am "experimenting". I am going to try make the LM386 work and build a class D (not from scratch but from an IC). Thanks for the feedback.
