Mike Senna, a creator of the Wall-E robot, decided to build an automated Chicken Coop Door using the Progressive Automations waterproof actuator - the PA-06 Waterproof Actuator. You can use his idea and make your own automated chicken coop door opener!

I did want to learn about actuators but I got to admit that I clicked partly because of the hair do! Thanks for the vid.

I am impressed! Good idea, and build. I like the Google based voice app, tied into the project. I was thinking you may add a simple clock timer, to open and close the door each day, when the chickens woke and went to roost. The voice app. would be great for working on a dog's door, to go inside & outside. Then secure the door upon closing.

Great vid. I’m doing something similar but have a RF linear controller that I’m able to hook up a light curtain to. Is there a way to hook up a light curtain to your Wi-Fi set up? my fear is the torque of the controller, at 300 pounds. It would cut one of my chickens and a half.

Hi Rick! We truly appreciate your idea! It is definitely possible to use a clock timer to set when we want the door to open and close.

Really like your video very informative. How would you make this system work if you had a 120V outlet in the chicken coop? Ive been searching all over KZbin but cant find how to power a linear actuator from an outlet. Im very new to all the automation stuff

Had to sign in to save the video and to ask I could borrow your brain. what do you recommend for an actuator that isn't so noisy? doesn't have to move fast but needs to be near silent?? thanks for the video

Hi Mike, How do connect the relay with google home. I connected to google home via smart life app. Hey Google doesn't understand when i say "open" or "close" it just understands when when i say turn on or turn off. Thanks

Hi William! You may need a smart relay for this type of application. However, this has not yet been tested on our end. This is definitely something we are interested in looking into. Be sure to subscribe to our newsletter or follow us on social media to stay up-to-date with our latest projects!

The MHCOZY 4CH Wi-Fi RF Wireless Switch Relay I have will do that, through Google Home via the eWelink App. It too will not "understand" when you tell it "Open" or "Close". unfortunately I don't see a way to make it just say "Coop Open". It is the same company module as the one in this video. Just 4 Ch. I recommend you wire different than how he did it in the video. The way he wired it has the relays will have to stay on ALL day. If you wire the just slightly different, ONLY ONE relay needs to be on at a time to actuate and it can be turned off the rest of the time. Saves on the life of the module, or the relays at least.

Hello, great video!I have same smart switch and DC Linear acturator.Is it possible to combine button switch with 2ch smart switch?Thank you.
@ProgressiveAutomations
@ProgressiveAutomations Жыл бұрын
Hello Jure, It should be possible to modify the wiring in this video to accommodate for an extra button switch by integrating more relays to prevent a short circuit between the button switch and smart switch while still allowing for a path for the actuator to receive electrical power. If you had any other questions, we’ll happily assist you at sales@progressiveautomations.com Best regards, Progressive Automations Team

How did you determine the 3-1/2" number on the top arm?
@ProgressiveAutomations
@ProgressiveAutomations Жыл бұрын
Hello Kyle, The shorter side of a pivoting lever arm will need to be a length that is longer than half of the actuator's stroke to ensure the actuator can travel its full stroke without rotating the pivoting lever mechanism over 180 degrees. Since the actuator used in this video has a shaft that travels a distance of 6 inches, the length for the pivoting lever arm’s shorter side will need to be longer than 3 inches and the 3.5 inch length that was chosen is a relatively even number to work with while not being too oversized. If you had any other questions, we’ll happily assist you at sales@progressiveautomations.com Best regards, Progressive Automations Team - Nathan

is not fast enough to cut the chickens in half :)

Definitely not, as we wouldn't want to hurt the chickens! We do have a high-speed actuator which you can find here: www.progressiveautomations.com/products/tubular-high-speed-linear-actuator
