Hi, Mate great job. I've got a question I just purchased an opener from Bunnings a belt drive one, Did the install myself and it has got too much tension and stress on the rail when its open and close the rail seem to bend when the door is open/close and only open halfway then it stuck. Any suggestions of what I might be doing wrong? Also the rail is parallel to the ceiling, Cheers
@RathanNag3 жыл бұрын
Please check couple of things, is the hinge fastened on the door is at the top end of the door and the anchor point on the wall is at the prescribed height? If this is not correct the motor will struggle to push the door. Also check if the rail or belt has any kink or obstruction. Also, have you used the support anchors for the rail? Make a video and share the link
@peacefulandhappiness4153 жыл бұрын
@@RathanNag Thank you for your reply. So, here I found my problem after looking into couple of things that you advice and learned it the hard way because I wasn't doing enough research. My tilt door was too heavy and out of balance, the belt drive opener model option does not suit this type of door as they're tend to bounce and struggle with opening due to the counterweight spring lift so, I will have to now convert it to a chain drive one that will give it more of strength and solid up the motion of the door when operate. Also the angle of the rail does matter with my setup it was the cause for my rail to buckle and bend when open/close. I had to lowered the back of my rail where the opener is lower from being parallel to the ceiling by 5-6" but, with my personal opinion is best to rather have one long solid piece of rail than having little sectional pieces of rail join together, I hope my scenario might be useful for anyone that having the same trouble, Cheers
@RathanNag3 жыл бұрын
@@peacefulandhappiness415 that's good to know. Typically these doors are balanced and spring assisted so that they can be easily opened and closed by hand. Check if it's really hard and takes a lot of effort to open and close manually, if it doesn't then it should be height of anchors at both the ends. If the door is hard to open, check it's hinges and springs, lubricating them might help. Also if the weight of the door is not equal on either side of the door anchor point, offset the whole setup to align with weight. Hope this helps.
@peacefulandhappiness4153 жыл бұрын
@@RathanNag Yes the weight of the door are not equal because its on a slope floor the door follow the shape of the floor not a perfect square and its heavier on one side

Nice tilt door opener install. Do you think it can be done to a tilt garage door with a lower headroom? And by the way tou that thing with the rope that releases the opener, is ther like a chain connector rail or something where it locks on to and where should i place that in particular on the metal ramp of the opener?

Hi Rathan, great video, thank you. A question if I may: did you have to change the pivot position of the J-type fitting on the the sides of the door when you installed this? What pivot position is your arm at, at the moment? Thank you.
@RathanNag3 жыл бұрын
Hi Chamal, I didn't have to change anything. As per instructions you attach the pivot to highest possible point on the door. I can email you photos, if you need.

@@RathanNag Thanks Rathan! Because of the less than ideal setup in my garage, with a low structural beam right in the middle of the garage, I had to get a unit that had a 2m rail. The manual recommended setting to pivot point 1. So, I'll have to try and select the best setting.

Ooh, I spotted a NSW number plate. Wanna give me a hand with mine? :P haha I have the same style door and same hinge. But I need a different approach. I am building mine to be powered off LiFePO4 batteries and there is no other access to the garage, so I need a system which allows me to open the door manually without needing to disengage the track from inside. Thanks for the video, I wanted to see at least 1 other person who had done such a conversion on this style hinge :)

@@RathanNag Awesome will do. My biggest issue is finding or building a system which can be opened without the release cord. There's no power in the garage and no other way in. So if the batteries die, I need a manual override I can do with a key from the outside. Tricky.

@@thfreakinacage as far as I know, the hard links attached to the door won't let you move the door with out disengaging the track belt or chain.

@@RathanNag Yeah I think I may have to do something a little different. One idea is to use some sort of linear actuator directly attached to the hinge itself. They have the torque needed but I need one with a clutch. Haha. Crazy ideas :P
