*You should be using a fuse inline of your power source and the device to protect against a short or overload situation. The final version of this will have one once we add a transfer switch. Its also best practice to keep your loads at 80% or les of the available amps of your voltage converter.

One good trick for this stuff is put some dielectric grease/Molykote on the terminals. It helps keep the salt spray/mist off and prevent corrosion if you’re storing near your tank. I’ve got all my terminals and barrel connectors coated with the stuff to keep corrosion away. Works good on cabinet hinges and screws too!

Very Cool . I think you got the head for this stuff & are good at it . Thanks for passing on your knowledge. Really important in these uncertain times & batteries have advanced & decreased in price . Seems you'll eventually foray into solor . I did a little research & you can get used 400 watt panels cheap . I'm thinking a 1000 watt systems . the most cost effective. You already have the batteries. Major part of the expense . Check out MOES Dual Power Converter . When your batts discharge , it automatically switches to the grid . When batts are charged , automatically switches to batt . Since you got the batts . You can recoup the cost faster . Maybe even run your lights . 😊 Thanks Reef Dude ! 😊. Why not just get two 12v batteries and wire them in series. You can eliminate the DC/DC converter which would be another possible point of failure and get extra capacitance so it would work for longer in the event of a power failure.

Or just get a 24v battery from the start :) 12v is the most common so it’s a nice easy solution for it. In my case my ato is 12v and want to run it all off one!

went down this rabbit hole the other week, spec'd out batteries, relays, and converters... but it was cheaper to just buy a ecotech battery pack and be done. refurb units can be had for the price of a battery alone.

The big differance there is the ah/run time as this battery is equal to Jsut under 3x etm ones. So a few different ways to look at it. But I do agree the ecotech is. Nice easy plug and play option

Nice but this could easily be overloaded :/ that converter is only rated for 5a @24v which isnt a lot for motors. Especially wave makers as they ramp up drawing more current.

There's no fuse for each item you connect either in case of a fault. It'll just throw whatever amperage it can before something blows in a fault condition. This is why you have proper battery back up systems. Lots of safety implemented into the design. At least if the battery back up burns your house down, your insurance will pay out. They wouldn't for this kinda setup. All things to consider...

I do say to check the current of your power supply to ensure it’s less. This is the first step in an automated one. I’ll be sure to include fuses in the finally version! But in a pinch someone can easily plug this is to save their tank !
