Thre are so many ways to do this project. I like the use of pickets. Good point about using exterior paints. Well done.

I've had several surgeries this summer and can't do many crafts except a bit of crochet. It was relaxing and fun to watch you paint.

That turned out so gorgeous! Thanks for sharing your process. I tend to overthink things and I love how you used unconventional products like the wood fence - brilliant! The cost of marine grade plywood is really high if you can even find it and this is a very budget friendly alternative! That looks so great with your flowers.

Hey,I see another project for the top of th3 fence you cut off. Outdoor Christmas . They look like Christmas lights. So you can paint and string them up and use in a wreath or garland. I love the quilt signs. One of my cousin shes a quilter and lives in Pennsylvania. She says,theses signs are everywhere on barns. She says so beautiful and even far away on the roads from barns you can see them.

I found that using Frog Tape was better at making crisp lines when I made mine. Beautiful barn block. In the Pacific Northwest around Tillamook, Oregon there are many barn blocks on barns, houses, and shops.

Absolutely love it and I am so glad you done this project. I'm surprised with all the Farmhouse projects that saturate KZbin, noone does these. They would be so pretty inside on a smaller scale and easy to change out for seasons. Beautiful Barn Quilt.

Missouri has Barn quilts everywhere. Once you figure out how to get the pattern on the board it’s easy. I learned to divided the board in 4ths and your pattern the same. I’m going to do Missouri Star for my shed. I have one in house with almost same colors as yours. Very pretty.

Beautiful! A tip: If you put clear nail polish on the edge of the tape, it will prevent the paint from bleeding under the tape.

Very beautiful color choices! I would suggest doing a light brush stroking with the background color, from the tape to inside of area, before adding your color. It seals the tape & if any leaks under it is the same color as the background. Thank you for a great video!

I think people up in the. North have to register with the states. No two can be the same. My girlfriend was from Iowa, they had a large farm in Lake View.

Hello. I just tried my very first barn quilt and the acrylic paint peeled off. It did not adhere to the wood. I was using Liquitex Basic. Do you have any suggestions? Thank you!
@TheRetroFarmhouse2 жыл бұрын
The one you painted, was it outdoors? I used an outdoor paint for mine. You can get small samples from a hardware store. Sometimes that adheres to old wood better.
@stevehaycraft19012 жыл бұрын
@@TheRetroFarmhouse I'll try that thanks. Actually it started peeling just a few hours after it was started.

What did you use for hanging?
@TheRetroFarmhouse4 жыл бұрын
Marinda Vance I used a two by four on the other side of the wall then drilled 3 1/2 inch screws into the barn quilt and through the metal siding into the two by four. The two by four was secured onto the siding wall first from the other side. I painted heads of the screw with the cream paint so they aren’t as noticeable. We have a lot of wind at times so I knew I wanted something that would hold it well against the wall. If you are making a smaller version of this for indoors, I’d recommend a French cleat as it can hold a lot of weight.

I think what you referred to as a “barn quilt” are actually something you see everywhere in Amish country i.e. Pennsylvania, Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, etc. They are called HEX SIGNS. The Amish put them on their barns to ward off evil. They are brightly colored and look like quilt patterns. Most are circular in shape. I could be wrong. Google HEX SIGNS to confirm if they are what you called “barn quilts”
