I built this beach cart with PVC and re-purposed wheels from a kids' powered "Bigfoot" truck. It easily handles more than 100 lbs of beach gear...The original wheels didn't do so well in the sand. See how fixed it here: • DIY Beach Cart - UPDATE .
For the specifics of how to attach the wheels and axle, see this video: • How to Attach Axle and...

I love the idea of reusing a kids power wheelz axel and wheels! So much cheaper then the gray purpose built beach tires that are $50 each!

Sorry for my delay in answering. I liked the size of your plans! I would use the design to carry similar things to the beach plus all the added things needed for our 3 yr and 1 yr old grandchildren. We just returned from the beach last Saturday. We wound up using a plastic, two child wagon with hard plastic wheels. Due due to the small size and poor wheels we set up close to the boardwalk to the beach and walked down to the water from our beach blanket and umbrellas. I have decided whichever direction I do take, I will spend the money for Wheeleez wheels. Thank you, Scott

Santa at the Beach In that case, I am happy to share the plans, but I'll warn you they look like scratch paper. I would post here, but I can only do text and no images. I tried to connect with you via Google Hangouts but you do not appear to be on Google+. If you set up a profile there, I can send you pics. Or, you can give me your email address or Facebook name, but you may not want to leave that here in such a public place.

Your beach cart is exactly what I am looking for as we travel to the beach like Patton's 3rd Army. Do you make the plans on the construction of it available? I would be more than willing to pay for a set. Thanks for your innovative plan and great presentation.

Great video! Thanks Brother! Quick question .... when lifted, does the canopy ever drag when carried through soft sand?
@centerforceone
@centerforceone 8 жыл бұрын
The canopy does not drag, but only because I strap it to the front of the cart. Look at the 3:36 mark in the video when we are walking back toward the camera. You can see the strap around the front of the cart and it's looped back through the carry handle on the top of the canopy cover. I used a cam strap, not a bungee cord.

I knew I could not be the only one looking at those wheels for a beach cart. Wheeleez are just outrageously expensive. I like the pin idea, though I'm not sure if I can incorporate it since mine will be a fishing cart and pretty much sitting right on the axles. Nicely done!

Cool idea! So how did it preform on the beach, in te sand?
@centerforceone
@centerforceone 10 жыл бұрын
The hard plastic wheels from the children's toy did not do well in the sand. This was partly due to the wheels and partly due to the axle I harvested from the toy. With a diameter of 7/16", the shaft could not bear the weight of the fully loaded cart without deflecting a little, which further inhibited smooth rolling action. The wheels "plowed" as much as they rolled. I had to break down and buy true beach wheels. These come with a stronger axle and roll much better through the sand. I have plans to make a new video to discuss the revision to the design.

Would and axle and wheel assembly off of a old hand truck work good? (Given they're in good shape) I'm building my own and looking for tips on all these videos. Love your design but staying in a condo im gonna have to keep in mind the length and width. (elevator could be an issue) Thanks!
@centerforceone
@centerforceone 9 жыл бұрын
The axle of the hand truck would be okay, but I doubt the wheels will work well if you plan to carry much weight (e.g. ice chest, canopy, etc). The hard wheels that I had were 8 inches wide, and they still plowed through the sand when the cart was loaded. I had to break down and buy the wheels that were designed for sand. You could definitely make the cart shorter. The length of mine was based on our oversized canopy.

Santa at the Beach, I'm not sure my plans would be that helpful to you. My design was based on the dimensions of our canopy (which is much larger than most take to the beach), our ice chest and the wheels & axle I removed from the child's Power Wheels toy. What are your intentions for the plans?

Does it fit in the elevator?
@centerforceone
@centerforceone 9 жыл бұрын
I have never tried to fit in in an elevator, but it would depend on the depth of the elevator. The cart is 6 feet long. As long as the elevator was 6 feet or deeper, the loaded cart should fit . Unloaded, the cart would fit in any elevator as it could be stood on its end. The length of my cart was based on the length of our canopy (which is larger than average). A smaller canopy would likely be shorter when collapsed, which means the cart could be made shorter. My cart is just under 32 inches wide (to accommodate the cooler) so width should not be an issue.
