Beautiful! I’ve learned here on KZbin that when you cut a skirt or dress on the bias that you want to let it hang at least overnight before hemming so that the hem is even because the fabric grows (stretches) when cut on bias and can make the hem look uneven.

Thank you so much very easy to follow instructions, can I please ask why you opted for the waist to be 1/4 hip +1 rather than 14/waist + extra (2 e.g). I drafted your pattern on paper and haven't yet cut on fabric, slightly concerned there will be a lot of space to gather for the waist with little cruve towards the hip? thank you 🙏🙏

Guess my question is why is the waist measurement based on the hip, i.e. 1/4 hip + 1, rather than quarter of the total waist itself plus 1cm?

@@ilikebubblegum assuming you're using non-stretch fabric, if you cut to the waist measurement you wont be able to pull the skirt up over your hips as it will be too tight. Using the hip measurement ensures the skirt will be able to pull up past the hips, and then adding elastic so it gathers to the waist measurement.

no :) cutting on the bias gives some stretch to the material but the fabric itself does not need to be stretchy

Yes, you still can cut in the grain line. However, when wearing, the skirt won't fit nicely at your butt area.

One simple way I usually do it fold the width line and the length line of the fabric together. Then adding a half of the pattern to the folding line of the fabric. And cutting

Very cute, well explained thank you! What is the benefit of cutting the skirt on the bias, is it just so it falls better? Do you think this pattern would also work well if cut straight?

The benefit o cutting on the bias is that you can have more room at the waist and hip area as the fabric is stretching on bias. Besides that the skirt will fall nicely from the top to the bottom of the skirt. With straight cutting, it'll be more in the a-line look
