It would still work if u go with 1 feet sump.. but i would recommend you to go for canister for this tank size.. simple and efficient 👍🏻

Not needed it should be washed once in 3 months .. it is a biological filter, if u wash it weekly the bacteria colony would break .. then there is no use of this filter.. like i have mentioned use this as a secondary filter..

It wont coz the holes are there in the top as well.. the filter is submersed so the water intake from the air stone will pull the water upwards.. if u still feel then u can go with the suction cups in the bottom .. place the suction in the bottom hole of the filter and stick it in the bottom glass.. like i mentioned it s just a seed all you need to do is develop it according to your thoughts and creativity ..

Dont clean this filter weekly .. like i explained use this as a secondary filter and clean the primary filter on schedule basis... This diy filter should be cleaned once in 3 or 6 months .. coz the main purpose of this filter is to create bacterial colony.. so if u clean it weekly then the bacteria will die and will take another week or two for it to regenerate..
