+Mariivoire Well, the problem is Europe has a good health care program but they pay hella taxes for it. It's not the orthodontist problem they have to make a living to. If I went to school and work hella hard to get in a dental school (very competitive) I'm not lowering my cost. My family plus workers depend on the tuition.

+Mariivoire my guess is you never had braces! On the first appointment I got an mold this is the catch when I got my mold they choose which kind on braces I would need. which was Traditional and Damon brackets (braces). On the second appointment I got them in thanks god I didn't need spacers in was just the amount of room they needed. They put them in! they glue the brackets and place the wire but they also puts this gray think that is on one of you molder teeth which I hate. The reason braces are expensive is because of length of treatment. The tooth can only move slowly and a applied with little pressure.

Braces is free for people under 18 in Turkey. But you have to apply to the government first that you need the braces and you can't afford it so the government pays it for you depending on your situation. But health care in Turkey in general is cheap so eating healthy because the farmers and villagers always bring fresh vegetables and fruits in the Sunday market.

Yeah but that rubber band doesn't know what straight teeth look like. Braces are places in exact point son teeth with exact tension so they look straight after treatment. A rubber band? That will be moving up and down and will just leave gaps in other areas. Anyway, after you get braces, you get a retainer, because after you remove that pressure from the teeth (for example, a rubber band), they move back to place very quickly.

Doctors use calculated force with slow movements so that bone formation occurs on one side of teeth while resorption occurs on other side. Why are braces so expensive, though? It was almost 1K for my little palatal expander and it's literally just a piece of metal that holds onto my teeth and turns? Not to forget the stupid plastic expanders they put in before, that were almost 700. Orthodontics is literally just pieces of flimsy metal that they charge way to much for.

I did this to my two front teeth three years ago. I was really insecure about myself having a gap. So one day, I decided to take matters into my own hands. I took some unused miniature hair rubber bands. I crossed the bands over my two front teeth. I did this same thing everyday for at least two weeks. I thought I fixed the problem, but I made it worse. My gap dissapeared, but my two front teeth are now semi crossed over. I deeply regret this descion... Moral of the story, do not be a fool, and if you are insecure, talk to someone.

the rubber band thing works and it's even safe if you do it right. just make sure that the rubber band is only applying pressure on the teeth, not the gums.

I also closed my gap with rubber bands because I thought that the price tag was going to be enormeous. But at the end I heard that in my country the price was all right for normal braces. I even made a video about this issue on my KZbin channel!

Um don't use rubber bands to bring your teeth closer together, the rubber bands can work their way up in your mouth and damage the bone, leading to your teeth falling out. They said that in the video ;^;

I don't hear a single dentist saying "If you need help with your teeth come in and we'll fix them for what you can afford" of course their reaction is against it because they're losing money. that's the only thing dentists care about money. just like the implant movement.. it's an outrageously priced devastating to your jaw and health and you can't find a dentist in America that doesn't push you to get implants as soon as you have a cavity. the dentist almost lost their mind a year ago when the administration tried to put dental into Medicare.. I guess the dentist were concerned that old people wouldn't get proper care if Medicare was paying for it..

Its also a trend here in Southeast Asia. U can buy them for 3 dollars at markets here. People here put on fake braces for fashion and social status. Btw, nobody got time for expensive dentists fees so people resort to such things. Switch out the bands every day, and don't sleep with them in. If you notice it slipping upward, take it out, and replace it on the tips of your teeth where it won't slip. If it slips anyway, no matter how much you try to keep it in place, the gap in your teeth is likely just too big to be fixed like this. If you hate your smile enough to do it anyway, just be really careful, and tell an adult if something goes wrong. The reason this story blew up in the first place is because 1 kid let the band slip up into his gums, where he couldn't get it out, and was too ashamed to tell his parents, until it cause permanent damage... Dont be an idiot, and you'll be fine.

If you can't afford to go to ortho just go to a general dentist ... Mine costs $500 (for one arch only/upper teeth only) for the installation of the braces + $50 for tooth extraction (only 1 premolar only) and treatment are $20-30 / month (monthly visit for 2-3 years).

Guys doing this method will only move the 2 teeth that is pressured, the rest of the teeth will stay in position. And also, you have to keep these rubber bands on or else your teeth will go back to normal and the gap will increase. Last but not least, it is painful as well so don't get convinced by this method.
