Good idea. I didn't have the ideal size drill bit for the larger hole so I had to use the next size up which was about 1mm too big.

@@screwsnutsandbolts From my measurements it needs to fit in an inch of space with old pad fully worn & still on with bolt threads at least 3 inches.. Think I have the perfect design in mind

You can see the hex nut turning the whole way. Bad design. Why not use the kind of nut made to be embedded in wood that has the sharp spikes that dig in preventing it from turning?
