I show how to make and use handy tool to quickly and easily add a burr to your woodturning scrapers, especially negative rake scrapers. It is made from a carbide rod easily purchased on eBay or elsewhere.

I used a carbide drill bit to make my burnishing tool. Burnishing is a old friend of mine as the cabinet scraper is a favorite woodworking tool for me.

I have several machine shops near me so I'm going to see if I can get my hands on a couple used end mill bits. This is one of those ideas that is so obvious you wonder "Why didn't I think of that." Thanks for the tip Mike. "Bubba" So funny, I lived in Texas for a time and that was a name commonly used for describing "Dummies". I haven't heard the term for quite a while.

Bubba is definitely a Southern term.

I am going to make a carbide burnisher. I have been using my 3/8 Thompson gouge and it works because it is slightly harder than M2 HSS albeit a tad unwieldy, or honing (not rolling) a bur with a diamond card-not a very clean, even bur. Very nice handling of your end cards in this video. Crisp and unintrusive on your content. Thumbs up. -- Joe

Thanks, Joe. I need to do a bit more work on having a few "bolt on" outro's they call them.

I was one of "they" in a former life. I worked in the video editing room of a NBC affiliate television station eight hours a day five days a week. Your talent placement and showing the cards on the side was a great start. Keep up the good work. All the best, -- Joe

A used (dull) solid carbide router bit should also work. Usually the spiral bits are solid carbide. 1/4 inch is USD $15 starting price on Amazon.

Good idea about the 1/4" spiral router bits if someone should have one on hand. I have found new carbide 5/16" end mills for about $13

Why not just use a dull, solid carbide 3/16" router straight bit?

That will work if you have one and it is long enough to mount in a handle. Thanks for sharing!

What hardness are we looking for?

Harder than the tool I guess. HSS works on high carbon tool steel. Carbide works on HSS
