This is a great video! for the heating your cage though, I would try to get something for the heat lamps to rest on, like a regular grid piece, so that you aren't just trusting the clamp. There is a high chance of clamp failure and the lamp falling into the cage during the night and your hedgehog getting a burn because they were curious. Also because of the size of your cage I would suggest you invest in a second lamp (and a thermostat if you don't have one currently) to keep the cage evenly heated at the proper temperature.

As a note to anyone getting this who is trying to get matching fleeces, this is NOT the same as a standard 2x4 C&C where each grid is 14”x14”, the grids here at 12”x12” so your fleece would be Midwest sized (24”x48”, a true 2x4) and not C&C sized!!!

fleece isn't absorbant. it just wicks away moisture. you're supposed to have an absorbent layer under it. The goto is Uhaul Furnature Pads.

Are they pretty friendly? We want to get one and have a 4 year old (very mature for his age) and 2 year old twins. All boys. I’d always be with them and youngest wouldn’t be able to touch them without my supervision. But my niece said not to get one and that they are mean, bite and hiss etc. so now I’m second guessing??

They aren’t known to be very friendly or social. They will get poked at least a few times while the hedgehog is learning how to be handled (and more than likely after), and they are also nocturnal. I believe their schedule can technically be altered to suit the household, but in general they are asleep (and more grumpy) during the day. Everything I’ve read is not to get a hedgehog and expect it to actually like you, cause it won’t.

Still works great! The only thing I will say is there is a small seam on the edge of one side of each square where the plastic was folded over and glued, and I didn’t notice it before, but I wish I would’ve paid attention and made sure all the seams were facing the outside of the cage because the seam kind of gets gunked up and nasty and hard to clean. (Hopefully that makes sense) One of these days I will rebuild it and flip each square so that the smooth side is facing in, but so far I’ve been too lazy lol.

You probably already know this but cat food that is high in protein and low in fats is a great option! Treats could be given 1-2 a week and something like mealworms or yogurt drops I’ve found make my hedgehog super happy! I hope you have luck with your little fellow and bonding goes great!

Another idea instead of a heat lamp would be to get a human heating pad ( the one with the controls ) and set it to low, I use that as I had several laying around, and it works! just be sure if its inside the cage, to get ones that are water-resistant ( or waterproof ) so you can clean it easy. Question for you, What wheel do you use?
