Just an FYI, these tractors did have 1 weak point. With high hours, the input shaft on the hydro pump can round off, even sometimes break. Most had a hard to get grease zerk, but I think the main cause was drive shaft issues.

A few years ago I bought and restored a 1984 430 3 cylinder Yanmar Diesel. It has blown my mind the power and capability. I have fabricated a few implements as projects arise. It has a 54" snow plow and the tractor will push a foot of snow with no chains or weight (other than me). I noticed you can buy what they call a shovel bucket from Deere for about $1200. I studied it and built the same thing out of 3/16 plate all welded together vs 1/8 and all bolt together from Deere. I have hauled countless yards of dirt around my 4 acres leveling and filling in places. I built a drag for the back with 6" channel and 1" solid stock that I cut at an angle and welded to the channel, It's 60" I think with 20 rippers and it really digs, smooths and levels clay. My sister had new laterals put in and it was all clay, they really left a mess and between picking up little piles if clay and dragging back and forth over everything it came out very smooth and level. When I cleaned out my 600 feet of tree line I bet I drug 30 + trees after I cut them. In a tree line you cut the tree and it hangs up in the others and the 430 jerked the trees off their stump and pulled them up a pretty good grade about 300 feet where I limed and cut everything. My only issue is being a cat 0 I cant find implements. When I restored it it now has the rear PTO that I wanted to hook up a tiller to. The closest I can find is hydraulic that runs off the mule drive up front, no rear PTOs. I still love it and will keep looking for the right tiller!

Nice set up. Very good use of that rig. Powerful tractor but small enough to get where you need to lay that cable. It reminded me of the times before I got lil Jonny. I had a collection of Case 444 (1) and 446 (3) that used the single lung Kohler 14HP and the Onan 16HP twin. Also, very beefy little tractors with hydraulic drive and 3 point hitch, etc. from that era. Thanks for sharing!

I've put in around 20 of the Pet-safe systems for friends & family but used an old disc from a harrow(?) then used those big paint sticks to push the wire in, no fun. We also used the drill technique for twisting the wire. A tip before someone does this, is to take a push mower and cut the grass short, it gives you a trail to follow and less grass to go through. Always make the corners round, use lots of flags and train, train, train your dog. Pet-safe also makes a Big Dog/Stubborn dog collar for large breeds. He is Neil Peart from Rush with the cow bells !!

Tim I wish I had a smaller mid size tractor. To do things just like this!! A tractor is so valuable. I check at my local Kubota dealer and one thing I’ve learned is that if you see one you like you have to jump on it because it’ll only be there a day or two. There was a 35 to 40hp John Deere diesel MFD there a couple weeks ago and I inquired. It was clean as a whistle had about 3500 hrs on it. It looked to be really cared for and kept inside its entire life. I immediately thought of you and was pretty sure you could tell me if it was worth what they were asking $14,500.00. It was gone the next day or two. ,It was perfect for what I wanted it for. Turf tires rear remotes extra mid remotes. Set up well to plant grass seed and maintain large lawns. As well as till smaller plots. I just didn’t know how to get ahold of you to ask. God bless AJ

Small correction , the last 2 numbers in the 300 series tractors are the horse power of the tractor. In example that 316 is 16 HP , 318 is 18 HP , they do share the same “P” series engine but the 316 version is only 16 HP.. now the only place this doesnt apply is the 322 and the 332 , they have the Yanmar 3 cylinder engine in them , the 322 being the gas version 18 HP , and the 332 being the diesel version being 16 HP but more torque. Also he put a higher HP engine in the tractor ,however JD rated the engines differently , not at the crankshaft but what they did was hook up the attachment that used the most hp to it and rated it by the “Remaining “ HP the engine had .. so a Kohler magnum 18 or Onan P series 18 HP is far superior to say a 25 HP engine of today … both the Kohler and Onan both are “opposed” twin cylinder engines and had gobs of torque way more than the engines of today.. and the 400 and 300 series both shared the sunstrand 19 hydro pump.. with the same GPM out put .. they difference was the 400 series were longer and slightly wider by a cpl of inches so they could handle pulling like a 3 bottom plow where the 300 series because of its weight and length were better suited to pull say a 2 bottom 10” or 12” plow and of course a single.. and the 314 and 3 316 were the only ones with single spool hydraulics all others came with dual spool so they could operate a 4 way plow or snow blower with hydro shoot angle and front end loaders and yes even backhoes .. they are and you were right the equivalent to the X700 series of today..
@digdrivediy3 жыл бұрын
I actually think there were both engines for 316. I believe the 1987 and newer 316s had the same P218 Onan that the 318 had with 18 HP. The pre 1987 316 had the B43 Onan with smaller displacement and was in fact 16hp. This tractor is an '88 and had the P218. Now, there was also an older 316 that had a single cylinder Kohler. That one is 16 hp too. You forgot about the 330! So really, out of all the tractors in that series, the 318 was the only number that always represented the hp! 316, 318, 322, 330, 332
@PhatboyHD883 жыл бұрын
@@digdrivediy the 330 was also the diesel Yanmar only difference was it was single spool hydrolics and no power steering.. and ya forgot the 317 that was also 17 hp that had the kohler 17 hp opposed twin engine.. john deere still uses the same philosophy in alot of its tractors today mainly the bigger farm tractors where the last 3 numbers are the machines rated HP .. example the 8230 is 230 hp ,, they seem to have gone back and forth on that threw out the years .. i didnt menthion the 330 because it is the same tractor as the 332 without the dual spool hydraulics and power steering. To similar to mention my friend has a 316 I believe it is a 1989 and it has a P series 16hp engine .. i will see if i can get the numbers off the engine at least that is what he told me .. the 316 and the 318 in later years were like the 330 and 332 just minor differences like single spool hydrolics stock but could get it as a option i believe .. nice comparing notes with ya ..i own a 332, 322 , and a 317 ( with JD replacement kohler magnum 18) and a 318. Yea im a JD buff lol ..

Lazy Way to Bury Internet Cable! kzbin.infokm1UgkUwCP4?feature=share
@Studio23Media3 жыл бұрын
My only concern with that for data wire like coax or ethernet is that you're not laying the wire very deep at all, and giving it no external protection. Wouldn't take much at all for the cable to get broken. Absolutely perfect for dog fencing though! Also, for anyone that might be worried about the use of "shock collars:" if you ever have the opportunity, put the collar on your arm and try it. It's not nearly what you think. You can easily get bigger shocks from naturally occurring static electricity. I use a remote collar on my service dog, and no kidding, 98% of the time only need the audible beep to correct a behavior. If I have to use the shock, it's usually in order to keep him safe. Dogs are incredibly smart and will learn very quickly where they can and can't go, and will learn that boundary in respect to whether or not the collar is on. Many commercially available systems have a vibrate and/or audible tone option if you're completely against the electricity, but you should know that it's nothing at all like people expect. A dog pulling against its collar and leash/tie-out is far more painful for the dog and can actually cause very serious injury. (The most commonly seen flat collars are a waiting diasater and should never be used, but that's a whole different topic.)

Hmh... to think I wouldn't have had to train all my dogs to never leave the property over the last 35 years... LoL

the horses and cows groceries as well as the horses and cows and pigs and chickens bedding. it's fun to tell your neighbors you made pigs in a blanket with your tractor but the horses and cows and chickens would have none of it and just got up and ran away and watch them scratch their heads while your wife laughs and tell them she seen it with her own eyes.
