Here's a translation of the Maestro's description... "From a normal high-roof combination to a motorhome in no time at all. Put it in, buckle up, drive off. The box is 112 cm wide, 74 cm deep and 41 cm high when folded. When unfolded, the bed is 200 cm long. Total weight approx. 40 kg.Made of 18 mm multiplex birch. 15 mm would be better, but unfortunately it wasn't in stock in the hardware store. The drawer is made of 12 mm poplar and birch plywood."

@@bosong8017 If you choose A/B softwood construction plywood, most of the voids will be filled, but it won't look too nice. It will have one "good" side and one secondary side for not showing. You could paint it for appearances. Or you can choose cabinet-quality birch hardwood plywood, which I believe is what was used in this project. Both sides are equally good in appearance. Of course the prices will be quite different.

Great build and clever ideas - but: I keep hearing in my head "Wooden Pallets". Less work to customize and not as heavy as plywood.
@mertonallowicious2 жыл бұрын
@@kmooney1954 as a carpenter/woodworker over 20 years I can assure you the voices in your head are wrong… pallet wood is either weak junk or quite heavy. Yes! Way better design than mine. I also made the mistake of building mine before I had my new 2 burner stove (I built it to fit a single burner stove). The dimensions were wrong (I couldn’t nest the stove into the spot I intended). I ended up having to rebuild 1/2 of it. I also like the idea of making it lighter by cutting out pieces.

Sheer genius!! I've been thinking about converting a cargo trailer into a camper, but I think you've just convinced me that what I should do instead is build modular components and then have "tie-down" points in the trailer to strap them in, so they can be removed or swapped around at any time. Then if I ever sell the trailer, I simply take all the modules out and re-use them elsewhere.
@_GntlStone_3 жыл бұрын
It's an awesome little setup. If you could lock the bed in a partial upright position it could also work as a couch. See Ladi & Margaret's youtube channel for the season 1 van tour recap posted recently. One of the tours they cover had a bed/couch setup using ropes & cleats.
@lisat97073 жыл бұрын
Watch Jarrod Tocci on youtube. He did a video on a van that uses modular components that he can swap out completely and replace at any time. He's got lots of videos so you will likely need to search. But it's really worth it. It's a older gray haird man and the interior is a darker gray hope that helps!

I've built a small square drop camping trailer, and I've been looking for ways to cut weight. For instance, replace large bulky 2x4 bed supports with thin white oak battons. Much less mass, far greater strength. I hadn't thought of using a high quality plywood and cutting out parts of it like that, and it's rounded so they won't split or crack along force concentration lines. Very clever. I'll have to steal that.
