DIY Canopy - 55 Gallon Aquarium

This video is a quick overview of our DIY canopy top for our 55 gallon Mbuna tank.
We love the look of the canopy, and it also helps to muffle sounds from equipment. Overall, it was definitely worth the effort.

I am a cabinet maker an knew owner to also a 55gal. As anxious as i am wanting to get it set up. Patience pays off an i should make something like this! I like how its all hidden, an like u said, muffels the sound. Love everything about it. Handles an all. Thanks

This is very cool....we’ve never been huge fans of these because of the humidity where we live and the destruction it can do to the wood....yours came out awesome and looks lovely though....we like our tanks nice and tall and have always had such high stands that no one ever even notices what’s going on with the top....but again yours looks great and you’re father in law did a great job....👍

Thank you! We keep the glass lids on as well, which usually helps with the humidity on this one, but most canopies do have that issue. Appreciate the comment!

I did a similar build. But I had the weight bearing block run the entire side of tank. And tested the light on the blocks, that way I can adjust the light from front to back and more light spread with it being raised an 1.5”.

This canopy is really a good design! But I think it will still work fine without the handles installed, might look even nicer without the handles. By the way, great job!

Looks nice however very heavy, very hard to access filter baskets to do maintenence. But looks great .

Didn’t have any issues for the year and a half that this tank was running. I upgraded to a larger tank so the 55 was shutdown
