Also, I've seen one, a 3 bin, where the 2 center dividers were, like the front panel, also removable, allowing you to have 3 bins "in process". When the third one is finished, the compost is removed and used in your garden. Then the contents of the 2nd bin are moved ( through the removable wall) to the third bin, thus being "turned". Then the contents of the first bin are [easily] moved (turned), right into the middle (second) bin. Leaving the first bin available to start a new batch. Of course, one could add additional bins if you want. The woman who built them/it emphasized how much easier the removable middle wall(s) made the turning process.

Have you ever thought of painting that shop building brown and painting the doors and everything else red and putting a red tin roof on the top of it I think it would look very beautiful. Try to match it to the house.

I'm not a scaredy cat. But you should have proper footwear on the farm for the job you are doing. Protect your feet they are the only ones you'll ever have. Later in life you might want to use them. At our farm the rule was safety first , boots or hard shoes to protect your feet & ankles.

SUGGESTION. I would recommend putting a pvc hoop lid on bins (like the lids you make for your raised beds). That will allow you to control the moisture of the pile as well as give it a little more warmth for the composting action.

Papa pepper has a compost bin made out of cinder blocks. It's looks to be a nice size. He made 3 compartments on it. Check it out for different ideas. Yours looks awesome. It looks like a lot of work.

Dampen each layer with a hose, 6" greens & brown layers, 3 inches of manure, lasagna style. Wrap in a black tarp. Open tarp every 3 days turn center to the outside of compost, make sure it stays LIGHTLY moist, and rewrap with your tarp. It should be getting hot & turn into compost in about 30 days.

I don't understand you statement that compost needs to rest for a year, maybe 18 months or maybe less if you rush it. We do most of our hot compost in just a month and let it rest for a couple weeks, (maybe up to five weeks), before using it to dress our beds.

Compost will rise to 120-170 degrees Fahrenheit. Compost needs to rise to that temp then rest to no longer be ‘hot.’ In our experience that’s 6 months at the earliest, 18 months at the latest. Could for sure be different in others experience. Easy rule of thumb is sticking a thermometer in it before applying to beds just to make sure it’s not to hot

Zach does the slow decay way of making compost. It gets hot very slowly & it takes a lot longer to break down. It also gets too much moisture during the rainy season which cools the compost so it's not hot enough to decompose. And he doesn't cover his compost. There are many methods. I use a lasagna style method and compost is ready in 30 days.

Perma Pasture Farms has videos on 18 day compost if you're in a real hurry but it's really labor intensive. Some people just pile their items up and let it go for a year or more without a bin or turning. There are many ways to do it.

The main advantage to me in making my compost through multiple turnings is the universal heating of the pile to kill more of the seeds included in the pile. Additionally imagine how much more compost I can make in the same small space in a year. To me it is more than worth the little bit of healthy exercise I gain while doing it.

Dogs, cats help.not much else you can do bcuz it's outside & has food scraps in it. The faster you can heat it up & turn it into compost the better. Keep your layers of brown & green to about 6 inches each, lightly watered, about 3 inches of manure. And do it lasagna style. And cover with a black tarp to keep extra water out so it get hot & stays that way. Turn every 3 days You should have compost in 30 days. The way Zach does it, it will take at least a year to break down. More chances of having rodents bcuz it doesn't get hot, and gets too much water from rains.

Your cooler will be stained for life. You'll never get it clean again. HAHA why didn't you just lay it down to build the sides, instead of trying to balance those boards in mid air? Yes I agree, each side should be the size of the whole unit. Make sure to dampen each layer, but don't drowned it. Then turn every 3 days. And cover with a black tarp & you will have compost in 30 days instead of waiting a year.

Have y'all checked the going price of walnut wood????? No...don't go cutting your beautiful trees down, but in the future if times really get tough, it could be thought to fall back on. Give up a tree a year maybe....
