I love your final result!! A tip for those about to do this: when I took off the tape, it messed up a small bit by the sink. I used a bit of the tape that had sponging on it to act as a patch. It is covered by the clear Caulking and you can't tell!

My daughter and I did my countertops yesterday. The more layers you add, the better and more realistic it will look. We also used a crumpled target bag to add texture. Ours turned out great.

Wow! You did an awesome job! The black looks so sleek and modern! I’m moving to a new/used home in February, and the first thing I plan to do are my kitchen counter tops. They’re currently a light wood color 🤮 I cannot wait to try this! Thank you for the tips, and your kitchen looks amazing! 👍🏼

I highly recommend NOT doing it with the kids in the house! Lol. I totally get how you’re feeling. From a mother to a mother, if possible, plan a day where it’s just you and whoever if you have someone helping you-kid free. So, you can take your time and focus ♥️ You got this!

Really wish I had seen this video before I started. I watched Giani’s videos and they set very unrealistic expectations of what a first timer should expect. Your results are far more realistic: interesting sponged paint pattern, but DOESN’T look like granite.
@shelivesnaturally2518
@shelivesnaturally2518 3 жыл бұрын
I agree with you. I also feel like the Giani videos pushed the “simplicity” of using this. Do I think anyone could do it? Sure! But do I think it’s totally easy and hassle free? Nope! As long as people know what to expect going into it then they won’t be blind sided when they realize this isn’t a walk in the park LOL and hopefully that eliminates a lot of unnecessary stress. Appreciate your feedback 😊

This looks great! How have the countertops held up? Any scratches or paint chips?
@shelivesnaturally2518
@shelivesnaturally2518 3 жыл бұрын
They are holding up much better than anticipated! I did purchase black silicone mats for the main part of my counter just to be extra precautious but the only area that chipped was on the ledge at the sink because when doing dishes my fiancé loves to leave his keys clipped on his belt loop and they eventually rubbed through the paint. I am surprised they held up the way they have we are always doing projects and using the counters to hold our tools! HOWEVER, I touched up the scuffed area with some of the black and a quick hit of the clear coat and you would never know! Other than that the rest of the counter is holding up great. It does scratch though if you are rough on it. So as long as people are aware of that and don’t go cutting on it or sliding anything crazy across it then it will be fine. Also, one thing that has made me not flip out if it gets a scratch here and there is that I can literally do a quick sand and hit it with another coat of clear coat to fill in any imperfections over time. So it’s never permanently damaged. I bought an extra can of the black primer and the top coat after a few months just so I knew I had it if I ever needed it :)

Your countertop looks fantastic! I just purchased this kit also and hope mine turns out as well as yours. Question: Why did you sand and use Kilz primer first? I don't see either of those in any of the instructions. Thanks!
@shelivesnaturally2518
@shelivesnaturally2518 3 жыл бұрын
I’m sure yours will turn out great! I sanded because it is the best way to get anything a cleaner won’t remove off. I also sanded and used kilz for my project because I was working with wood that had been urethaned. I sanded to remove all of the urethane and then used kilz to give a good base for the countertop paint to adhere too. I did NOT use kilz on the laminate though, only the wood :)

Looks really professional and certainly not bad for the cost of the kit..👍🏼 Question: was the top coat just an acrylic or a type of epoxy?
@shelivesnaturally2518
@shelivesnaturally2518 3 жыл бұрын
Hi! Thanks for the compliment! It’s acrylic which is why I always babied it as it does not hold up as well as an epoxy would (in my opinion)

The countertop looks great! I am going to be using the same kit/color on my counter top...hopefully this weekend. I know the topcoat dries really fast so I'm wondering how you are able to put a second topcoat on without it drying in the paint pan. Did you only pour half the can out at a time? Thanks for your help!
@shelivesnaturally2518
@shelivesnaturally2518 4 жыл бұрын
Hi! Thank you for the compliment. As far as the paint, I only poured about a quarter of the top coat into the tray at a time. You can ALWAYS add more if you need it I just left the can off to the side with the lid loose so I could quickly grab it and add more into the tray. You can certainly pour half a can in as well and if you have some left over put it back into the can but there might be some particles in it by then. Let me know if you have any more questions 😀and feel free to share how it comes out!!!!

How hard was it to do the edge near the back? Like the wood backslash area? When I did the White Diamond on my bathroom it was sooooo hard to make it look cohesive between the two pieces. The Black Bombay looks like it might be easier than the White Diamond though. (Less intense sponge layers.)
@shelivesnaturally2518
@shelivesnaturally2518 3 жыл бұрын
As long as the area is prepped properly and there is nothing on the surface that will alter the paints ability to adhere it should be pretty easy. The black pearl was easy so I am also curious if there is a difference between the white diamond and black pearl 🤔 . The multiple coats (primer, paint colors, top coat) really filled in the edge where the backsplash and the countertop meet for a seem less transition.

Why does it turn blue ,when you put on the Top coat?
@shelivesnaturally2518
@shelivesnaturally2518 2 жыл бұрын
Good question! I honestly don’t know the answer. It starts out blue and dries totally clear. I’m not sure if it’s given that blue shade due to anti yellowing additives that get added? But that is a total guess 🤪

How durable is the top coat to heat and scratches?
@shelivesnaturally2518
@shelivesnaturally2518 3 жыл бұрын
I would baby the top coat to be honest. Mine looks good still because I use those silicone mats that you will see at the end of the video. But it will scratch if you slide something rough across it. As for heat I have never put like a hot pan on it, I always lay something down to protect it first, but I have put a hot cup of coffee and it holds up fine. For $60-$80 it’s worth it! And you can always just buy and extra can of top coat and touch it up whenever it needs it.

I don't see why 2 primer are needed?
@shelivesnaturally2518
@shelivesnaturally2518 3 жыл бұрын
I only used kilz and then the primer that comes with the kit on the wood. My actual countertop I only used the primer that came with the kit. If you feel you don’t need kilz as a base then that is totally fine. However mine has held up strong and has no signs of deterioration. If you have a wood backsplash that you had to sand urethane off of (as I did) I still recommend starting with Kilz. Let me know if you were talking about something else please 😊
