I used to use that crackle technique years ago and had forgotten it. I believe I first learned it on Aleene's Creative Living when she was on TV. Thank you for the reminder. What a lovely bottle! Very shabby chic!
@patioelf8 жыл бұрын
Thank you Sophie. Didn't Aleene make a crackle finish? I found this out by mistake when I painted over the glue too quickly one day. I find it to be a lot easier than the products I find in the stores. Patti
@d2parrotperson8 жыл бұрын
Yes she did later on. She began the crackling with tacky glue. I agree. The store bought kits are too fussy and costly for my taste.
@patioelf8 жыл бұрын
I'm so glad this technique works with the simple (and cheap) white glue. I'm with you, too fussy is not for me. :) Patti

Hi Patti, love love it, congrats. In my country I there s no the chalk paint, and didin t underestand what happened if I use acrilyc paint. Can you explain me please? Thank you again for share your creativity, A lot of kisses from Paraguay
@patioelf8 жыл бұрын
Hello Susana and thank you! Big hugs from the USA. Do you have a bottle that you can practise on? I am wondering if this will also work with acrylic paint. The chalk paint dries faster than the glue which is what causes the crackling. If you can find a matte paint (no shine) you may have more luck with that crackling. Follow these same steps but use your acrylic paint and see if it works. A problem I have had with the acrylic paint is that it sometimes bubbles when you heat it to dry it faster. If you try this could you tell me how it turns out for you Susana? Thank you! Patti

@patioelf8 жыл бұрын
yes Stephanie, though I would make sure to use a plastic liner inside the pot if you're going to use it. The water will seep through the terra-cotta from the inside and ruin the work on the outside. (or you can waterproof the inside) Thank you! Patti

@helendavies75918 жыл бұрын
Hi Patti Help please.I tried to do this project with PVA glue on a green bottle but did not use chalk paint on top instead just some emulsion paint i thought i would try to see how it would turn out.Welllll......absolute disaster.....the finish came out like an artex stippled finish not the crackled look i had hoped for.Where did i go wrong? Was it the paint i used? I dried it with a heat tool and not a hairdrier as you used was it that? Many thanks in advance for your advice on this.....Helen.

I have tried to do this crackle technique using Elmer’s school glue and chalk paint. I can’t get it to crackle. Could it be because I am in Arizona and it was 100 degrees? What am I doing wrong? Help! I followed your steps and can’t get it to crackle!

This is beautiful! I'm so excited to try this! Quick question, is it ok to do this project in stages (wherein the steps are stretched into days) rather than completed all in one day? Also, I can't find the micro fine glitter that you used in this video (I looked it up on your website) but there are so many variations of 'micro fine glitter. Help! ;)
@patioelf8 жыл бұрын
Hello Caroline and thank you! Yes, you can do this in stages on different days except for the painting. The glue has to be wet when you apply the chalk paint. Everything else can be done in days - I have to do that for my videos, I usually start them a week earlier. :) Stampendous makes a few beautiful micro glitter kits (about 3 colors in each) and they are lovely. You can try that. Thanks again Caroline! Patti

Hi Georgina, gesso was originally used over canvas to smooth out the surface a bit more and to be used as a nicer base for the paints that are going over top of it. :) Patti

not sure what I'm doing wrong :( :( I'm using school glue, and Folk Art Chalk paint with a sponge applying it, and it either doesn't crack or makes a lot of tiny tiny bubbles. The sponge is a torn piece from one of those sponges to wash the car :) Thank you so very much for any suggestions please please :) :)
