First, this was a really great instruction on the tapered legs - I was able to replicate them using your sled method. I'm a long time watcher but this is the first time I've tried to replicate one of your builds and it's going great so far! I have a couple more questions though: 1) I'm realizing your cut chart doesn't include the privacy panel (and thus I have no plywood left for it out of my 8x4 sheet). Is it necessary from a strength perspective, in your opinion, or just a 'privacy' perspective? 2) Do you have details on the drawer slides you used? Thank you very much!
@MrTwodogs563 жыл бұрын
I am like you. I have all the parts laid out a little different from the layout provided. My grandson didn’t want the back panel so I have extra but I was wondering if I needed it since he will be using it against the wall. Loved the design when I saw it and so did he.
@MichaelSmith19913 жыл бұрын
@@MrTwodogs56 so it's been holding up just fine with the pocket holes into the desktop to keep it stable. I definitely can feel extra "twist" that wouldn't be there with the privacy panel giving extra cross bracing but I won't be letting anyone stand on mine so I'm not worried about it at this point. Easy to add in afterward if I end up finding it too weak. Just thought I'd give my experience

Great video and top notch production values, as always! I’m looking forward to building a couple of these (the 2nd style) for my kids and with their help! Quick question: I don’t see the privacy panel in the layout of the pieces at 7:10. Seems like it would be the same width as the apron, right? What height would you suggest? Also is it helpful for stability or is it just for the look? Thanks, and keep the great content coming! Your videos are excellent resources for anyone trying to learn and improve our skills and understanding of the process.
@Foureyes.Furniture4 жыл бұрын
Hey David. Yeah, privacy panel is the same width as the stretchers. As for stability, it might make it slightly less prone to racking...but it isn't needed. So I'd consider it optional. Height, again, doesn't really matter, I'd just cut it to what ever your visual preference is.

I love woodworking, but the cost of good plywood and lumber hinders what I can make.
@FireAngelOfLondon4 жыл бұрын
It does depend upon where you live and how much time you have to look for it, but I get a lot of good lumber for free. In my current stock I have oak, beech, birch, walnut, plywood of various kinds and an unidentified but very tough hardwood. I also have some good birch plywood sheets that I bought. I live in Notting Hill, London, and there are places locally where people frequently dump old or broken furniture. I go past regularly and take a look, and most of the time I take nothing home as what people dump is usually real junk, too damaged to be useful. However there are enough occasions when I get great quality wood to make it worth walking by those places regularly just to see what is there. At the moment I don't bother because I have no room to store any more. If you live in a city or a reasonable sized town there are usually such places, all you have to do is find them, then turn up with a screwdriver in your pocket to disassemble stuff. I have made and sold furniture made from wood that cost me nothing but the time it took to fetch it. I hope you can find some time to see if such places exist near where you live. Even in the countryside some people do have such a place nearby, though your chances increase dramatically if you live in a town or city.

Hey Chris - love your channel. This question is not meant to be sarcastic or jerky. It’s sincere; for a fine woodworker (not a contractor driving 1000’s of screws a day) what is the advantage of a festool impact driver? I mean this. They’re so expensive. And for things like the track saw (which you don’t have), the Kapex, the rotes sanders and the dust collection I can understand the value for the cost. But for the drills and drivers I’ve never understood it. I’ve been using my Milwaukee M18 drill and driver set for 7-8 years at this point and it has never met a job it can’t complete for me as a fine woodworker. I’m not asking you to justify it or defend it. If you have the money or it was part of a sponsorship deal, that’s understandable. But is there something I’m missing that makes them worth 2.5x the price?
@Foureyes.Furniture4 жыл бұрын
Hey Bryan, I think you kinda hit the nail on the head...or drove the screw in the indentations? I don't know. But they sent this to me to try out. It's a great drill...but for anybody who doesn't drive hundreds of screws per day, it's overkill. I actually want to do a thorough test of cheap vs med vs expensive driver comparisons, to see what my actual opinion will be. I have some hunches and thoughts at the moment, but I'll reserve judgement.
@bryanh68564 жыл бұрын
Chris Salomone that’s the honest response I was hoping for from you. I donno maybe their batteries last longer, maybe when put through an extreme abuse test they use, say some higher quality metals in their chucks or something like that, but ultimately I could replace my M18 3 times and still come out ahead because I’d then have 3 extra batteries to use with my other M18 tools!!.
