If you have an ultrasonic cleaner, it can mix the liquid ingredients with the diamond powder quite effectively. Just be careful not to let the water/cleaning fluid into the mix, keeping the opening of the container above the surface.

Thank you for this! I have been trying to make a sprayable mixture and had settled on a seriously sub-par alcohol and diamond mix that I had to apply with a dropper. This is so much better! I have the same mister and ended up with a 1:1:1 of alcohol, glycerine and water but still only 3% weight of the alcohol and glycerine. Does that sound about right?

Where did you source the diamond powder from? On Amazon the only "diamond powder" I find are cosmetics (with diamond in the brand name).

E bay. There's a seller with over a dozen grit sizes, I got 5 grams each of 2k, 4k, 8k, 14k and 50k for $15 each.

Did you use paste goi? I think the paste is more convenient, also you can make it softer in warm place. There are several numbers (grit) of the paste. Also can be used with leather strop.

Thank you so much for your recipes. Did you add all 3ML of water to the base mix to make it sprayable? I will want to make a larger amount of the emulsion using all 25 carat or 5 grams of diamond powder. So I am concerned about getting the ratio's correct. If mixing the entire 5 grams of Diamond Powder, I would mix in 2.5 -2.6 oz each of Glycerin and Propylene glycol, by weight, and 30 ML of water? I will be making the spray emulsion in 5000 & 8000 grit. Thank you for your help.

So I mixed some up and I put the powder in before the liquid. This made the powder stick to the bottom and I think I'm going to have to redo it. Also my 7 micron does separate for some reason. I think I'm going to try the paste instead.

The original video he referenced, the guy uses pg instead of dpg. He says in a comment that he would have preferred dpg but it's hard to find (I mean it's on amazon). And that with pg it still separated eventually. He was using pg and water though, not pg and vg. The comment Beard referenced from that video, the guy uses pg and vg and says it worked great. I know that's a lot lol, but if it was me, I would use pg if I already had it on hand. But if you have to buy it anyway, just buy dpg. I used to make my own vape juice so I always had pg and vg on hand. I don't anymore and since I have to buy it I'm gonna buy dpg and vg.

Doesnt it a little mistake to glue the leather piece not on a flat side of ceramic, but on edged one? As you can see after sandpapering the surface you got that image of the ridges, so your polishing surface is not involved at 100%, but just polishing your knife only by the ridges.

Yes you can do it either way but Alex at outdoors55 suggests using rough side up as long as it's not super cheap leather. He says it absorbs the compound better. He also suggests buying a belt making kit and using that because most of the strops available for sale use low quality leather.

Great video!! Can you expand on the reason for using glycerol and di-propylene glycol, is it to prevent the diamonds from clumping ? Is the purpose to get the diamond dust as evenly coated across the strop?. (Ie if you were to somehow perfectly sprinkle the powder alone across the surface of the strop it would function the same, obviously not practical just wondering haha) Also, any issue with using glycerine and propylene glycol (not di-) both in the forms of car and watercooling coolants? If anything I’d guess the additives might be good for the edge of the blade, can’t say the same for the strop

5µ sized diamonds sounds rather slick, about half the size of a single silk fiber.

I think the paste didnt work so well due to the cilica. Diamond pastes purchased online are oil-based. Any ideas what theyre using as the binder to be oil based?

The diamond powder is about $15 for 5 grams, which is enough to make a couple hundred milliliters of compound, the cost is an order of magnitude less than commercial compound, literal pennies on the dollar kind of thing. There are a lot of abrasive compound companies that don't want people to know this kind of stuff exists. E bay is your friend, there's a seller with over a dozen different grit sizes, from 2k to 50k grit, $15 per 5 gram bag.

hiya, just starting to make my own diamond spray, got some .5 micron, but their site says it's 10k grit? other sites are different too. who to believe?? :/

There seems to be a lot of difference in micron vs grit depending on where you are buying. That seems a bit off though, .5 should be higher than 10k grit. 10k should be more like 2 microns or so. Honestly though don't worry too much, just use it and see how it goes.
