Did I calculate right? You got about 10kwh in your battery pack. Add a generator for a series hybrid system, and you got unlimited power with max silence and clean sailing / motoring : ) Can t wait for more shows about the e-drive.

I totally support an all electric boat for the galley, but I think a hybrid with a diesel generator for emergency power is the way to go. Can also use the generator for water heater and water maker and use the diesel for a diesel heater which is more efficient than an electric heater for the boat. Also can get AC with a generator. Best wishes and thanks for the video! 🎉❤

Yes, we will definitely do a generator down the line since we already have a diesel tank set up.

The cells heat up and will swell, you should allow for cell expansion!

Great catching up with your channel and seeing how far you guys have come. If you have schematics for your proposed electric conversion, I know lots of people including myself would love to see. In the short term, Victron makes inexpensive battery monitors which are extremely useful in not only monitoring the state and condition of the batteries but also your energy usage component by component. That's all! Can't wait to see how the project progresses!

You both are really awesome to watch. I think you guys will be the next up and coming KZbin sailing couple. Fun to watch and have good personalities. But, not many people are in Hawaii. There are some sailing Hawaii, but they are kinda boring to watch. Looking forward to watching you both sail!

Im building an electric micro trawler. 26ft. Im actually going to run a lithium bank charged by solar and a secondary bank with generator that will go to a lead acid bank and direct to the motor. So i wont be 100% clean but i will be able to greatly extend my range. Gnerator selected will only burn a gallon every four hours under the 100% motor load. So about 35mpg. Gen takes 2.5 gallons so about 90 miles so a 5 gallon tank 180. So 270 without counting the batteries. Ive gone 30miles on a similar boat i built that was all battery. So at minimum I expect the batteries should give me that. So at minimum 300 miles with a 7.5 gallons or fuel.

That’s awesome! Sounds like good range and a perfect happy medium!

Love your energy didn't see any insulators between LiPo Cells you need them for safety. If the rapping around those wear through you'll destroy a couple of cells or EVERYTHING please be safe. Curtis I live on turf tiny home 😊

What are the inverter losses? How efficient is it to convert 48V DC to 120V AC?

Oh boy! That’s a tough question. We are still learning! But it sure did last a long time on that single charge.

I have been trying to get some of those 3.2v cells but nobody ships to Hawaii... Where did you get yours from?

We found them on Amazon! We had to pay a decent amount for shipping, but they shipped right to us.

Do you have one of those wonderful live aboard slips at the Ala Wai? What will your solar set up be? Do you have a wind generator?
@sailingposttime

We luckily have been blessed to have a live aboard slip in the Pearl Harbor area. We are still brainstorming a solar set up. Our boat will force us to be creative because we have two booms, so it limits us with creating a hard top to have a flat surface for panels. Seth is brainstorming and has some ideas!

"This is a phone..." hahahaa!!! Awesome update! Nice rundown on the battery setup too. Silly question but by bridging all of the cells together into an almost milk carton setup, do you think you guys will have any heat management concerns to worry about?
@sailingposttime
@sailingposttime Жыл бұрын
Seth always has the best rundowns! The BMS has a temp gauge, the long sides we left open with just the metal bar, and there is a gap between the rows…so hopefully that allows the batteries to not overheat!

So let’s say you run your motor at 3kw @ 48v. That will be 62.5A. Even in the most optimistic scenario your battery will give you 4.5hrs motoring time which is super low in case shit hits the fan and you need to motor a bit. That is the key problem that keeps me from seriously considering fully electric boat

Right now we are just using shore power, but eventually we will be getting some type of solar/wind to charge them!
