If you’re interested in building this project, check out the links below of the items I used in the build (not all items are exactly what I used, but are similar)(affiliate links do help support the channel!):
Pully amzn.to/3rUHElH
Carabiners amzn.to/3lpmVEr
Turnbuckle amzn.to/3lwpUuM
Cable amzn.to/3vBm08e
Although not woodworking related, if you have a furry friend that needs a little room to be able to move around and you don’t have a fenced in yard this DIY dog run is simple and easy to create. I got the fence posts and concreate at one of the big box stores and the hardware and cables were ordered on Amazon.

I'm glad it worked out just remember to keep the lead that goes to the caller short enough to where he didn't get tangled up in the cable the lead my poles the cable runs at 7 ft 9 in he has a 10 ft lead on the runner he has plenty of room either side without tingling up the lead off of the runner I tried putting him on a longer lead a 12 ft lead it didn't work out he would get tangled around the pole 10 ft give him about 5 ft either side and 55 ft Runner and his lead lets him get 5 ft either side so 10 ft across by 55 ft

your major flaw is, you need to put stops on the run cable so the dog does not wrap around the post. the stops should be the same distance as the length of the leash. If the leash is 15 ft., then measure from the post down the run cable and put a wire rope clamp. You may say it's no problem but if you are away and your dog wraps itself around the post it could seriously hurt itself in a panic. I urge you to look at other Trolley dog runs if you don't understand what I am saying. You need to put stops on the run cable so the dog does not wrap around the post.

Thank you for your comment. Yes I understand what you are saying, the issue has been solved by putting a short temporary fence coming out from the posts, this way it doesn't shorten the length of the run.

I don't see why not. Just need to insure the posts are firmly in the ground. Also, need to consider the cost of longer fence posts can be quite a lot more, but if cost is not an issue, I would go with a 14 foot post and have 4' in the ground. Thanks for the comment.

10 ft great just as long as the cable don't reach the ground with the dog make sure it's up at least three or four inches off the ground with him right underneath it with it hooked up to his collar that way it says from getting tangled up around the pole if like mine light didn't got tangled up once and he hadn't tangled up again

The only thing I don't like about this setup is how the leash drags on the ground. I want to have one that's retractable so that the line stays above the dog at all times and won't trip people or get tangled around objects on the ground. My mom sometimes ties our dog out to a heavy metal patio chair in the driveway but I don't think it's safe because you can't get close to her because she'll wind the rope around your legs and trip you up. And the chair isn't really enough to support her pulling if she decides to take off at full speed. (It just luckily hasn't happened yet.) She's a 45 pound pitbull border collie mix, but she has the physical strength and power of a much bigger dog. If you have her on a leash and she decides to take off after a deer at full speed, forget about it! You're going down. It's happened to me before. It's so frustrating trying to find an ariel run with a fully retractable or stretchable leash that isn't just designed for small dogs that don't pull that hard. I've seen a few on Amazon, but not any that I don't think she would break because they usually tend to be made of the woven canvas that leashes are typically made of and they don't usually have pulleys. Do you have any ideas how to make the leash part retractable so it stays off the ground? Maybe you could connect it to a second pulley that lets out line as the dog walks away and winds it back in as the dog walks back torward it, like the way a retractable dog leash works? Or maybe you could do something with bungee cords?
@AndersenWoodCrafts

I like your idea, but I'm sorry to say I have no bright ideas for making a retractable leash. Thanks for watching.

@@AndersenWoodCrafts When I check Amazon, they do have coiled tie out lines that stretch. They're like the cord on an old fashioned land line phone. The only thing is, I think they come in several different weights and if I were to get one that was to heavy, it would be uncomfortable and drag on the dog's back. It's hard to know if it's the right weight from looking online, so I'd have to get it from a store. But not a lot of places carry them. Maybe you could find one of those and try it. It's not any different from the type of line you already have, except for the fact that it's curled like a phone cord.

Sorry for the delayed response. Don't know how effective a run like this would be for cats. As a cat parent myself (have a total of 12 cats, 4 of them are pure indoor cats), and living out in the sticks (neighbors across the street are goats and cows), I just let them out. For a little clarity, I don't live where this dog run was built anymore. Thanks for watching.

The height of the main Runner to the length of the lead to the collar you want the lead to the collar just barely looping down not touching the ground and the post most dogs won't get caught in the post some will if you have it too long they will get tangled up around the pole if you have it just barely looping underneath like hanging right down below his neck whenever he's standing right underneath the runner that's just right he can't get his foot up over it when he gets around the pole but he'll have four or five foot on each side of the pole depending on how high you have the runner but that's plenty if he has four or five foot on each side that gives him a good 10 ft side to side my main Runner is 7 ft 9 high and the lead is 10 ft that goes to his collar with him standing underneath delete it goes to his caller hangs 4 inches from the ground and he didn't get tangled up sometimes you'll go around and around the pole when he gets wrapped up before he finally gets enough reps away from the pole but he didn't get tangled up

@@dreweybaker9259 on my dog run I made it out of 3-in heavyweight drill pipe but the ends of the cable for the Run Runner cable I put cable clamps to stop the cable my German Shepherd goes around and around the poles unwrap himself and wrap himself back up but he knows how to get out he Tangled himself once and since then he knows not to do that I guess he's a smart dog but if you have too long of a lead then they'll get tangled on the pole itself with the lead instead of just wrapping around it or if it's too long they'll even wrap it around their self so it's important not to be too long of a lead going to the collar the runner as long as you can make it mine's 55 ft he's got 10 ft radius between the 55 ft and the cables with lightning directly under the 55 ft Runner with his 10-foot lead there's 4 in from the ground at the cable hangs that's kind of important because they'll get it tangled around their feet

I dont know how long ago you did this so I'm probably too late but still feel the need to say it. You really need to shorted the lead wire going from the dog's collar to the trolley wire. Just needs to be long enough to allow him to lay down. Too long and itll get tangled around his legs which could result in loosing a leg or foot. My dog had this issue. In his case the wire wasnt too long it's that he pulled so much he make the pole tilt alot putting sag in the trolley wire which ended up making the lead wire too long. Luckily he didnt loose his foot but he definitely learned something.

@@worldgrooves2254 your a judgemental b... he was tied to a proper dog trolley so he can run around. Without being tied the crazy neighbors calls the pound and you know what they do to old dogs. It only wrapped around his leg coz it was longer than should have been and he pulled alot eventually loosening the pole his trolley was attached to which make slack in the line causing the lead to hang even lower. He was fine when I went to work when I came home I found him walking around with the sore leg . My wife and her brother was home and when they noticed it they cut the wire off. When I came home I tried to treat it myself after talking to vets but it didnt heal that good due to his constant playing in the dirt with my wife's shitzu. So after 2 days I took him to the vet where he received antibiotics and medication including creams and a wrap. After a week he was running around the neighborhood. We switched to a hand braded rope for the lead and reinforced the post. It haven't happened since. He is a outside dog mostly due to his size and drooling and my wife. He not inside so tieing him in a safe secure place is the only option to avoid dog pounds or cars. Fencing don't work, I tried them all. He digs under them and when that dont work he chews through them. My neighbors never tie up thier muts and one in particular is always in heat which is why he do so much to get out. They'll call the pound on him but never tie thier own dogs which tries to attach kids going to the bus. My dog zak is very old and mostly hangs around the porch when hes loose but only after he visits his friends. Just coz you have a big place can pay for trainers and have a house safe dog dont mean you get to judge others. My original comment was just to warn of the potential problem with the wire dog trolleys not asking for stupid comments from idiots like you. So karen f... off and keep you opinions to yourself.
