Your x5 is so clean especially for 235k miles. Amazing.

Aged pretty well, mileage still counting with no end in sight😁

Thanks for the video, mission accomplished. But, I have to disagree with your assertion that the failure is caused by people incorrectly opening the door. It is a design flaw, pure and simple. And yes, opening and closing a door SHOULD be tested 100,000 (or more) times and should not fail. BMW makes cars that look great on the showroom floor and drive great, for a while. Then the oil leaks, electronics issues, and sub-par engineering start showing themselves. BM(trouble you).

Oh absolutely a design flaw but since we can’t change the design we better change the way we use those handles so they can last longer that’s all i wanted to point out😉

Great content again Tim. I’ve got a E70. I love the car, but it disappoints me that they are so badly engineered that you need a rocket scientist to fix the door, and that the plastic disintegrates when you work on almost any part of the car. You are very good at what you do because that wasn’t an easy job.

Thank you, well e70 has its issue but i would say built pretty good

@Zeiten LLC hi Tim,just an FYI for you , l had to purchase the door handle carrier from FCP euro $50 AUD for the part and $40 AUD for shipping..so $90 but still cheaper than buying anywhere in Australia, here they're asking between $150 - $200 and thats if they have it in stock..all of them had no stock due to covid is the blame..so there ya go..thanks again Tim and open your ebay store fast..Australia needs a good supplier :)

How did you get that much leverage to push the wire in place? OMG I’m struggling with that step 😖

After doing this job my window and mirror control no longer works from the driver side switches. Still works from the door itself. no way to control the mirror though. Also the lock actuator does not work from the center button nor the driver side. any suggestions?

@@Zeiten I did check it so far as looking for wiring that was not connected.. It all seemed pretty snug and seated. You think maybe unplug it and check the terminal closer in that case? Perhaps a bent pin on the actuator? Can you explain how the connection to the actuator can affect the passenger side mirror and window from driver side switches?

I found that the lock cylinder cover actually needs to be pushed in fairly hard and then it should slide a mm towards the handle which locks it in the place with two metal tabs on the cylinder. You can see what I mean when you slide it into the door handle mechanism out of the car for a visual. This will make the hole line up for the Allen screw and you shouldn't need to mess around with aligning. It took me 20 min to realize this.
@mikegsg9r8 күн бұрын
You can tell when it's in place because the gap will be the same to the door handle as the other doors and you won't be able to pull it straight out. It will be stuck.

Very clean E53, support for your work and video but unfortunately destroying door vapor barrier acoustical membrane was unnecessary with some care and planning. BTW, new replacement vapor barrier is available if needed. As far as the doors panel, a two part epoxy can restore to like new condition, broken clip holders can be recreated but need a bit of creativity

Thanks for this. Very helpful you spent some time showing how to align the back alan key fixing and how tricky this is. I spent hours and then found removing all of the lock cable rod connectors, it went it first time. Just fiddly to reconnect the cable back on to the lock but not as annoying as trying to allign that bolt. It was about 1mm out before I removed the cable. Thanks so much. Random unrelated question. Do you have the problem of the fuel tank sender reporting half a tank when its empty. I changed the sender a year or 2 ago and its been fine. Then its stopped again. Do you think its stuck on cables or failed again?
