My boyfriends brother caught a wild baby gopher snake and gave it to me. Her name is esmeralda and she is such a sweetheart. Never hisses or rattles her tail at me. Was shy the first couple of weeks of having her but she's a fiery little thing when she wants to be. She's surprisingly gentle with the pinkies I give her.

My lil Frankie rattles his tail when he's eating lol. It's funny. Makes me wonder if they rattle for reasons other than just self defense.

He looks to be this years creation, brand new, should be easy for him to adjust. Beautiful, mother nature makes the best morphs.

Bullsnakes (Pituophis catenifer sayi) are a different subspecies. Being that you're in Washington, it's probably a Great Basin Gopher Snake (Pituophis catenifer deserticola). He's a cutie! I caught a tiny baby Sonoran Gopher Snake (Pituophis catenifer affinis) and his name is Frankie. He was crossing the ever busy rt 66, so I scooped him up. I used him for some educational presentations on the species at a local tour place during my work with the Arizona Game & Fish Department, and he now lives happily in his big ol 40gal tank. He explores every inch of it... top to bottom lol. He also has a bit of an attitude but usually once I pick him up he's gentle and curious as can be. They're such great pets.

Wow this is a great idea! Gopher snakes are native to my area. I’ll just wait until the weather warms up and go out in the desert and catch one. You have no idea how much you made my day! Merry Christmas!

my sister found one in her garage and gave em to me . and i really like it . once your holding it its chill. and it even took frozen mice, must of been hungry!. i wanna keep it cuz the chances of it living is slim.

Gopher snakes are incredibly adaptable. The chances are actually fairly good it will live. However, if you do plan on keeping it, make sure you can provide it with a LOT of space (seriously, they love to roam and they get BIG) and proper care. That means trying to make their environment as authentic and natural as possible, giving them proper heat source, etc. Good luck with your little buddy

@@MYANIMALHOUSE I kept a couple of very young ones a few days and released them back. I caught a larger one which is about 3+ feet and I ve had it for over a month. He seems to love the enclosure set up I have made from desert items and it is feeding very well so I think I got a winner. Never hissed or tried biting ever. This one I saved from certain death (got him stretched out across a country road) is a Great Basin Gopher snake from the Mohave desert.

Best bet is getting them from a breeder or a show. Wild caught should stay in the wild.

You should not Wild catch snakes I came across a gopher snake today and I released it because it is not OK to catch snakes
@emmahunt98042 жыл бұрын
Normally, I'd agree. It's best to not keep wild-caught snakes. However, I made an exception. I caught a particularly skinny baby Sonoran gopher snake (stopped to move him out of the road and noticed he was really slow and kinda scrawny). I decided to hold onto him for a bit. Got a meal in him, and he was the sweetest little thing. He now lives happily inside a 40 gallon terrarium. He happily burrows in his substrate, climbs on his sticks, hides in his rocks and wood.... He's a very happy snake. At this age, they should acclimate well to captivity. As long as it isn't a habit, I feel it's alright if once in awhile someone catches and keeps a wild snake as long as they know what they're doing. I recommend a LOT of space for a wild caught animal to roam, as that's what they're used to. And be able to simulate their natural environment as closely as possible.
