Wow! Y’all did an amazing job! This looks awesome! My husband and I are old enough to be your parents and “We” usually try to teach our children how to do things like this. It’s refreshing to learn things from a younger generation. Both of you do an amazing job at redoing things! TFS!!

The distressing done to the beam , is spot on. It looks fantastic👍👍 Look forward to the next video. TFS 😊

Not saying they didn’t do good but I wouldn’t say it’s distressed. That’s very minimal distressing. I make and sell fireplace mantles for side money. Can make new boards look like they came out of a 200 year old barn easily.

Been wanting to do this for years, along with vaulted ceiling. It looks fantastic, absolutely stunning. Great job guys, thank for sharing DIY video. Of course I'll hire someone, my ceilings are way too high and I'll need scaffolding. 👍

This was exactly what I was looking for help with. Our beams are stained an ugly reddish color with decades of paint smudges. I wasn't sure how to fix them. Wrapping is the answer. Great video!

Great job folks ... the biggest issue I find with this ( as I plan to wrap a steel I Beam in my dowstairs living area ) is the obvious joins in the wrap where the different directions of the timber grain can visually expose or give the game away that it's a wrap and not a solid item. I will be doing my best to search for solutions to that - the best bet is to have the side or vertical slabs COVER the bottom cap and to have the bottom CAP sit inside the two vertical slabs. This way when you LOOK at the beam you do not SEE or notice the join so readily. That's going to be my plan at any rate ... I really hate seeing joins.
@jayp70432 жыл бұрын
Your approach is better but even better yet is just mitre cut the 3 boards. Butt joints are easily spotted. One glance and it's obviously not a solid timber. Miter cuts are far less noticeable. Good video though for those who don't have the tools to do it with mitres...
@cha-ka86712 жыл бұрын
Next time, cut the edges in 45 degree angles to get rid of that seam. Then round the edges. Also, my preference is hand sewn look. It takes using a hatchet, chain saw, and a fire torch.

you can beat it with a metal chain to make a couple random marks, for realism. Also before power tools they had saw marks from the mill and used something called a "draw shave"

If he would have mitered the corners of the side post you wouldn't have those seams, but I personally don't mind them. I think he did a killer job.

Can this be done on a 20 foot vertical beam?

What is securing the bean in place ? Besides the teo side beams that run on the sides floor to ceiling? I have a vaulted ceiling project but not sure how to secure the beams directly on the ceiling as I will not have side beams.
@Thomashuzemma4 жыл бұрын
I would secure a 2x4 to the trusses in the ceiling and then secure the faux beam to the 2x4 with brad nails. You can fill the holes with wood filler. Hit me up on Instagram I’d love to see the project finished
@juann32954 жыл бұрын
@@Thomashuzemma thanks so much!
@mynewmedia2 жыл бұрын
@@Thomashuzemma I also have a vaulted ceilings and would like to do the same thing. Do I secure the 2x4, horizontally over the “V” pitch in the vaulted ceilings, and then create a faux beam that is 4-inches wide ( at opening) then secure the faux beam by nailing into the sides of the beam near the ceiling, into the 2x4?
@sodedit2 жыл бұрын
Was there any reason you chose to glue the three boards flat against one another vs ripping 45% angles at the ends? I'm debating the two methods since I have my table saw out...

If you would have done a 45 deg angle on the edges you wouldn’t see the butt joint and it will look like a real beam.

@Thomashuzemma3 жыл бұрын
I’ve actually built a few like that and with the beam being 14’ long it’s close to impossible to find a straight enough piece of wood to hold 45 degree cut without it starting to separate.
