I woodenized the 4 plastic legs on the bottom of my bed frame, to look like wood. My method was spraying with a caramel brown paint. While the paint was drying, I used some thinned (with paint thinner) very dark brown paint, which I applied with a dust-free cloth. Because the first paint was still drying, the added paint thinner caused streaking of the two colors, which mimicked wood grain. Areas where the caramel color was more dry would streak less, and often cause the darker paint to “smudge.” But smudge in a way that caused that v-shape you see in wood grain. It was super convincing!

Thank you for this tutorial. My front door turned out great! I had a dull brown metal door with sidelights. I priced a new one and the estimate was 8k+. Once I saw your video, I decided to try this. The gel stain wood look turned out great. With the stain wood look, black side lights trim, the door looks great! No desire to replace the door now! Thank you!!

Looks great! Thanks for showing the type of products used that’s a huge plus. One thing I would add is when painting a metal door, they often have dings and divets. After sanding the door, add body filler, smooth, add primer and then take the steps you’ve shown!

Love this look!! Amazing job. I’m ready to put on stain and I’m using minwax oil based semi transparent walnut stain and it’s not going on at all like yours. I’m using same kind of brush and it’s think and is not smooth. If I use a rag it all wipes off?? HELP

What my door has a oval window in the middle it’s impossible to gel paint around it and I have tried so many times I wish I could do the same thing

Nice job. I like all the nice touches you did. Only one thing I would do differently. Patch those dents with bondo first. It dries really fast. The dents show the door is metal.

I love this! We just put a new steel door in a couple of years ago and it is just white. I didnt know what I wanted to do with it until now! My only question is the tangerine kilz. I have never seen kilz in any other color than white. Will lowes or home depot put that color in and do you really need that color?

This is a great video, but for finding the Spiced Nectarine paint ;). Both the Kilz Paint and color (LC140-02) has been discontinued. None of the local stores (HD, Lowes, Ace) seem to have translations. I was, however, able to get a hold of a Kilz Customer care rep and was provided a translation to the Home Depot BEHR Premium Plus paint (Behr owns Kilz). Below is the formula. With these numbers, they can make any size. COLOR NAME: SPICED NECTARINE COLOR NO: LC140-02 PAINT: Home Depot BEHR Premium Plus INTERIOR BASE: 1300 PP Interior Deep Flat EXTERIOR BASE: 4300 PP Exterior Deep Flat SIZE: 1 GALLON 5 GALLONS COLORANT Oz 1/384 Oz 1/384 FL 0 162 2 42 KXL 7 72 35 360 LL 0 200 2 232 YL 1 82 6 26

It’s been 3/4 years now and still looks GREAT. Scratches from from wreaths but they are surface scratches and did not go down to the metal. Highly recommend this technique

Welcome sign is an upcycled piece from HobLob that I spray painted. To secure the storm door we bought a heavy duty lock and closed the door as much as it would allow. Worked for us but maybe not for everyone.

I would just use the tangerine over the black. It does a good job covering and you won’t really see much of it in the long run anyway. If a little black should haven’t to show through I think it would give a nice effect
