Spring is in the air and our pigs are feeling frisky! These are the first signs of breeding that I have ever noticed from our Kunekunes, could we be expecting piglets this summer? I sure hope so! Late winter and early springtime also means it's time to clean out the rabbitry and put those pounds of manure to good use! Our garden is going to LOVE this!

Your videos are very interesting and worthy of the time spent on binge watching. I also love Roots and Refuge but she doesn’t have much on you. The best is yet to come and your possibilities are just beginning.

Oh rabbits 🐇! We love them, I always tell people … want a rabbit that will pay for keeping him? Get a rabbit, they provide the best fertilizer, they are funny and entertaining, quiet, don’t require a lot to take care of and if you have some spots in your yard mowed, just put them on top of it and they will gladly eat if for you 😂 My sister lives in L.A and even my California girl will have to make room for a new pet worth his weight in gold😁 I really need to build cages and an outdoor enclosure so they can be on grass, I keep mine in (huge for him even with a “bedroom” (I had to fix it the goats destroyed it (it was in their yard) but I like him to be on grass in the spring and summer /nice weather so about 9 months of the year. And he loves it! Now I need to figure out for meat rabbits … which is in the works Thanks for all the videos and encouragement Love Lety

We LOVE keeping rabbits on grass too. It doesn't always work practically for us but the option of doing it is super nice! We use a trowel to collect manure out of the grass as needed.

@@SageandStoneHomestead that is a good idea! I don’t have a good method myself and I either slack on that or end up with poopy hands (which is not a big deal) and will totally try anything else 😂

Bunny berries are the BEST!!!! I have a 2 year supply built up since I couldn't garden last year. Love your raised beds!! Sorry to say but.....you probably need to separate your boar from the gilts. My dad always said never keep them together. Prayers for a very successful garden year for us all! 😊 God bless!

We are definitely formulating plans to get him out!! Another commenter said we can have him share a fenceline as long as it is solid (minus the gate). I read that they shouldn't share a fencline to make them feel truly separate. What are your thoughts?
@merryanneadair4451
@merryanneadair4451 2 жыл бұрын
@@SageandStoneHomestead I think the issue with sharing a fence line is that he (maybe both sides) will tear up the fence (& possibly themselves) to get together. That's why a solid barrier between them was recommended. Dad usually kept a pen in between the sows & the boars.(out of sight, out of mind maybe?? 🤔) But your smaller breed pigs are definitely NOT the huge more aggressive breeds we raised when I was young! Still, I would recommend a much sturdier fence separating them.

Oh they don’t look alright. With kindness, but they need space to hop and soft ground for their feet, not wires. It would be so inspiring to see if you can come up with a rabbit-friendly way to collect manure!

We Use our rabbits for meat, I want to be upfront about that. These bunnies are not just used for fertilizer. We used to keep them in ground pens on grass but every time it rained they got drenched in 3 inches of standing water because our land has so many low areas. Up off the ground isn't the most ideal but it works for our situation. They truly are alright. They breed and birth well and seem to be content. No hock sores.
