Now that you have another laser cutter you need a CNC press brake for the sheet metal parts you’re about to start making! You’d be surprised what awesome things can be done with sheet metal!

That would be fun! I have a little manual 12" brake...and I agree, bending parts is fun! I don't know that I can justify a CNC brake, but I guess I can't really justify a laser either : )

The Maker Store heavy C beam is so good. Aussie product. Did you use the original Laser to cut some parts ?
@diyfiberlaser3 ай бұрын
Yeah I like the product! I think I just used the old laser to cut out the 1/4” steel floor plates.

I just watched your first fibre laser series pretty much back-to-back. Can machines like this do engraving like other lasers, or are they just for cutting?
@diyfiberlaser5 ай бұрын
crude engraving, like for a part number...they are primarily used for cutting

Great video series. You have me seriously thinking about building something similar. Just an FYI, I tried to purchase the same tapping arm from Aliexpress, the seller contacted me asking for an extra $150 for shipping. So, I the free shipping is misleading.

That’s odd…I didn’t pay extra for shipping

Great build so far! I've really been enjoying this one, as well as your previous fiber laser cutter build, thanks for sharing! Quick question: could you use this style of laser source & head for engraving / recessing, as well as cutting all the way through, e.g. by adjusting the speed or other parameters? Thanks!
@diyfiberlaser5 ай бұрын
It can do some very crude engraving, like a part number or label….nothing like the quality you get from a galvo head engraver

i absolutely love this build. quick question - i realise this will primarily be for cutting, but - would there be a way of implementing a galvo mirror setup (for example 100 x 100 mm area) the smaller 100 x 100mm area could be stitch together when engraving, and stationary when cutting? or am i missing something which makes this redundant/silly? I think the advantage would be engraving large surface or cleaning rust extremely fast over a larger area

I'm curious on this as well... Would be interested in building a machine that can both cut and engrave thin sheet metals... Would even be ok if I could swap between the cutting head and galvo head
@diyfiberlaser5 ай бұрын
I've never tried it, but I assume running 2 separate controller/software packages on the same motion system is the challenge.
@vstolpner5 ай бұрын
@@diyfiberlaser is there any controller that could do both? I guess alternatively you have to have some switches to allow different controllers to send commands to the motor drivers... Similar to KVM switches for keyboard/monitor
@danny361205 ай бұрын
@diyfiberlaser there are xy gantry fibre lasers which use galvo mirror setup for rapid x y engraving, then in software they just move across an engraving image in a quadrant essentially stitching the image together. I don't think it would require 2 boards, however - I am basing this on a lack of experience and only knowing the cheap Chinese 30w fibre lasers have come up with a software solution - hardware wise it is just 2 extra drivers for galvo mirrors
@diyfiberlaser5 ай бұрын
@@vstolpner I've never seen a controller/software package that does both...yes, some kind of switching the motors back and forth would probably have to take place.

Hi! Im keen to make my own laser cutter too :). Thanks for the inspiration. If it wasnt for videos like this no way i would be brave enough to give it a go. I feel very lucky for the information available nowadays. Where are you based by the way? Asin what county. Uk?

Can you confirm if McMaster taps fit your electric tapper?

You can order it with either ISO, JIN, or DIN tap holders...then purchase your taps accordingly.
