I’ve used the delrin racks for over 2 years on my plasma table. One of the best improvements I’ve ever made. Just make sure they are nice and snug when you put them in!

That's nice to hear...I had never seen them before. They feel very snug in the channel and the gear is seated in them nicely, hopefully they hold up to the high acceleration.

Maker Store USA, you can also get them from Bulkman 3D

I suggest screwing in one screw and putting in an 8-10 minute commercial. You'll get 250+ assembly parts

I would like to see a repeatability test on those delrin racks! Love the idea of them especially for use with the c-beam and less critical applications but I have doubts

@@diyfiberlaser Repeatability may be fine if they don't shift, compress or extend during rapids and directional changes. Linearity and thermal stability once steps/unit are set could be in question which cannot be compensated out. May be more noticeable on batch parts tolerances and mysterious dimensional gains/losses on features along that axis.

@@diyfiberlaserthanks! I’ll take a look. I’m running a plasma cutter for now but might want to upgrade to laser in the future. Your builds give me a lot of confidence. Thanks for sharing all of this!

Thanks! I worked as a graphic and web designer for 20+ years, since last January KZbin is now my day job…well it’s actually an all the time job…never been busier, but also never had so much fun “working” 😀

@@diyfiberlaser The machine is as meticulous as ever, with perfectly balanced design. Every piece of work you’ve done, every path you’ve walked, subtly reflects in your creations now. Not only do I love your mechanical skills, but I also enjoy the way you present it in your videos. Truly talented!

Really interesting design. I'm kinda skeptical about this gear rack though haha

@diyfiberlaser regarding the tension of the spur gear to the rack, I currently have a spring tensioning system. If you're aiming for high acceleration and deceleration, spring won't be good for you. Speaking from my experience with my build. I'm not sure that the issue will be noticeable on your machine the same way as it is on my machine because the load on your y axis is a lot less than my y axis. I also have never seen on the big commercial laser machines any spring tensioning to the rack, so I'm pretty positive that it's not a must. With the new inovance motors that I'm waiting for, I will not use the spring system. I'm just gonna mount everything with high accuracy. If you're gonna replace the gear rack, i would suggest that you go with a helical rack. It's really makes a big difference in eliminating backlash.
@diyfiberlaser
@diyfiberlaser Ай бұрын
@@TAMARbarCNC Thanks for the advise! We will test it as is, then upgrade to helical rack if needed.

I wonder why you choose to use reducers? Was there not enough resolution? It does not seem like high torque application. Great video's with lots of inspiration.
@diyfiberlaser
@diyfiberlaser Ай бұрын
There is plenty of resolution, there is also extra RMPs that I will never utilize, so I'm using the reducers to convert that extra speed to more torque for faster acceleration...they may or may not be necessary.

Looking good. Do you have your shop setup at the end of a prefab steel building? Running 3-phase power there?
@diyfiberlaser
@diyfiberlaser Ай бұрын
No this is in my garage...it's the width of a 2-car garage, but it's really long. I use the back half for my shop and there is still room to park a car or two in the front. Only 240v single phase power.

I have used cheap and good. Right now I use them on my impact. I don't need the ball end so I got a set from hf. Originally I got the short ones but I needed a 3mm. So I have the long. I still have an alien set from encabale and I only use it if I need a ball end. For me knowing that every time I use my drill the torque will be around 30-35 inpb. I just use my impact set up for metal roofing screws.
