That’s turned out really nice! I’m planning on trying it out

Thanks 😊. Yes not too bad for a first attempt. Definitely have a crack at it. Preparation is the key. The actual fiberglass layup is the easy bit. But take time to get the dash as neat as you can. Then the mound will be good and the finished product will look great. Good luck!

wow, 2 years have passed already. I made a dash for my Pontiac Trans Am but not quite like you did (more complex) although the result is the about same.... but now, talking to Dept of Transport after they approved the conversion in "Principle" and then speaking to an engineer for final approval, to get over the pits, its a No Go as the Dashboard has to have a "soft feel" and can't be solid fiberglass. Another drama waiting for me.. sigh!

Oh this is sad to hear. Can you not cover with foam and then vinyl or leather?

@@SmokingSteelGarage ... probably can but I''e already put a nice looking texture on the dash, using a final thick blakc resin coat and water droplets, from a 3 meter height. It looks all nice an uniform but I will have to sand it all back, I think.. I have a plan B, to replicate the original LHD dash skeleton to a RHD skeleton to match this one I now have , make a female mold of my dash, place the new RHD skeleton into the mold and just fill it up with semi-ridged 2 pack foam. Hope that's its not too soft when cured then get someone to heat vacuum a new skin over it and hope it doesn't get squashed out of shape in the process.

"This is my first go". Then - this gelcoat "is not as thick as I'd normally use." A little contradiction there??? Where did you get the idea from to use two pack floor epoxy to seal your plug? Well really you and I both know the answer to that, don't we? Why don't you acknowledge the 2017 video on making a fiberglass dashboard that you copied here?

Hi Bill. Hope you are well! You are quite right I have not mentioned my Fibreglass Yoda, and that's rather rubbish of me. However I did thank you when I posted this film in Race Cars in Sheds back when I made it, and you even helped me out suggesting that the gel coat issue was because I hadn't let it go off for long enough... Won't make that mistake again, Yes this was my first time doing a buck and mould. Before this my skills were limited to repairing drift car bodywork and gluing my Formula Ford nosecones and sidepods back together. Literally finished another dash today for my Ford Focus race car. And before I started I always go back to your films for refresher course. I have updated the info above with a link. Cheers Bill!

Sorry that your video doesn't have more likes but you could show more details and make more videos out of a project like this. Put a camera on a stick, just let it film while you work. If you have skills ( I guess so) it will be interesting enough.
