Great video. I had in mind to use homestore angle iron as supporting brackets, as seen at @14:21 instead of the tube steel @13:12. I haven't tried but I think angle iron might work better if you mount it upside down so that it provides a lip for the table top to rest on.

Oh hell track saws are overrated lol . Also like the tape trick to avoid having to sand for several decades . Sticky back sandpaper is a god sent. I put it on a small piece of pvc pipe . I love watching the sanding portion . I just about crapped myself when I was watching another channel ,the guy was sanding across the grain . Yep thats like fingers on a chalkboard . This was a very well thought out build. My only concern is that 8'+ is a considerable span, and having that 1 1/2" angle iron seems of limited benefit on its own. Since you have a fair amount of space under the desk, a piece of 1-1 1/2" square tube could be run wall to wall, about half the depth of the desk for greater deflection proofing.

Was looking to do something very similar to this, but I am mainly worried about the weight the desk is going to be able to bear before bowing. If I were to follow this wall support build, and the desk is 112 Inches long and 36 Inches wide and I used your rail system with a brace bar in the center (or toward the lip of the desk). What weight would you predict the max load would be?

So I'm old school with regular good old wood glue I did buy some super glue that's for wood have you gave that a try I haven't used it yet wondering what your thoughts are

Super glue normally has a. Very quick drying time so it’s not the right glue to use for woodworking. Old school wood glue is the best in my opinion. Thanks again for watching.

So many of the videos I see use 3 walls. How would you do this if you had a longer wall and didn’t want to go end to end? What would you do to support it just from the back?

Good questions bud. In that case I would suggest using a heavy duty bracket that needs to be attached to the studs, such as the ones shown in the attached link. Hi, I love the work here! I have a Ikea butcher counter top and hope to make it into a desk like this video but I worry the cube tube will not able to hold the weight of the butcher top. It going to be 94inch by 20 inch in 1¹/² inch. Do you think the cube tube will be enough to hold it or what will you recommend? My walls are finished. Thank you

In all honesty based on what I used as long as you hit a few studs on the back side and one on the left and right, then use some heavy duty wall anchors I think the tube will be plenty strong. beautiful walnut desk. Was planning on using walnut as well and have the same 3 wall set up. How long is your desk? Mine will be 10' long and was planning on using a 2x4 framing system but I like how clean your rail system is. Clean but may not be good for hiding cable management system

Wood movement/expansion is primarily only a concern perpendicular to the grain. So as most boards are cut for length along the grain, you rarely are concerned with them growing longer/shorter over the season. In this case, the desktop would not be expected to grow/shrink much beyond its current 8' length. However, that 24"+ depth is going to grow no matter how much you seal it, up to 1/4" or more. Considering this is a decent sized top with some weight to it, screw the back left and right corners of the top, and let the rest simply float. This will not constrain the growth and risk cracking. Alternatively, on an all wooden desk you could put a small slot along the sides of the desk. Then you insert a clip that looks like an "S" with the top and bottom flat instead of curved, into that groove. The top of that clip is screwed to the bottom of the top. As the seasons change and the wood expands/contracts, that clip attachment is able to slide to ride that expansion out, while keeping the top relatively constrained.

Hi, Can I follow these instructions for a similar design. 2, 2in. x 10in. x 10 ft. making the desk dimensions 2x20x10. I am also adding 5 Strong-Tie 3in.x7in. spaced 2' apart. I only have one wall to anchor the desk to. What would you recommend for anchoring for my desk?
