Its amazing what you can do with some typically not seen cheap building lumber... A bit of work and glue, and you have saved yourself thousands!!! And, you got the look that you wanted!!! That poly coated pine has always been a favorite of mine.... No need to do any stain at all...

I agree, I priced all this at two different places and it was close to $5k for everything poly coated. Not including shipping 😳

I went through exactly the same process not long ago. My wife wanted wooden countertops but the price was ridiculous had I bought manufactured wooden counters. I used the same laminating, sanding, & planing process and achieved the same beautiful result. One lesson I learned early on was to get rid of my sawhorses and replace them with trestles I found on Paul Sellers channel. They were easy to make, rock solid and support a ton of weight. They store in a smaller footprint and can easily be used as low scaffolds, Your woodwork as always is gorgeous and will make a beautiful addition to your home. Looking forward to seeing the stairs installed.

It don't work with satin or semi-gloss poly, but it anyone out there uses gloss poly you can wet sand and polish any flaw that may come up. After it hardens just "wet" sand it with a block and 2000 grit, and polish it up with a little compound & polish. It will give you a mirror like finish. That is going to look really nice Andrew.

Andrew I think it's time to invest in a Woodmizer. Expensive? Yes. But with as many wood projects you have coming up and having all that pine on your property. It would pay for itself after two or three larger projects.

Looks great! Just wondering about the moisture content in that framing lumber and if it won’t warp over time as it dries out inside your conditioned home.
@TKCL
@TKCL Жыл бұрын
That's kiln dried lumber, supposed to be around 13 percent if I remember correctly. The glue when applied correctly is stronger than wood. Not to mention every square inch is sealed in poly. I'm not expecting much more if any drying.
@133432
@133432 Жыл бұрын
I am doing a similar build but considering running rebar through the treads to keep them from warping over time and to add some strength for floating application- any thoughts on this?
@TKCL
@TKCL Жыл бұрын
That glue is stronger than the wood. I wouldn't over think it and zero warping should occur with that many laminated together. Just make sure your support plate underneath the treads offers adequate support.

You do enough work to justify buying a track saw. The most affordable is Kreg and Ryobi. Next would be Dewalt and Makita. Festool is overkill. You also do enough work to justify buying a quality sander. 3M, Mirka and Festool are the go-to’s. Your hands and wrists will thank you for it.

as a Canadian its alarming we continue to get told by the news "THE US STOPPED BUIYING CANADIAN SOFT LUMBER" and all you (and I when i visited 8 months ago) saw was Canadian whitewood... we live in a seriously weird world anymore. I know its a big $$$ item but I could see you buying a Wood-Mizer (or another sponsor) sawmill and taking top spot reviewing it on YT.
