My neighbor is about to bring down a big ol' ash in the next week or two and I'll be getting most of the wood. Gonna have to make one of these. Thanks for posting.

Made one this morning. Real impressed with how much easier it is to cut wood now. Plus the chain is away from the ground so its stays sharper for longer.

The video playback was fast, but there are settings in KZbin to slow the playback down. If the video was slower viewers would be complaining it is too slow. For the information provided and quality of the content, the video was great. Thank you for including footage of it in use too on a variety of sized limbs and logs.

I've been having problems with video suitable playback speeds on some of my earlier clips; people complaining mostly about the slowness, so I have made couple of fast forward videos, kinda experimentally, and this is one of them. Earlier KZbin didn't even have the playback speed setting like it does now. I hoped to be able to include the necessary information in the video, and I doubted anyone would like to watch me e.g. saw six diagonal pieces off of 2-by-4's in normal speed. :D Of course different editing would have enabled normal speed with less visual of the whole process. Well, fortunately a bunch of people seem to have found this useful in any case. Thanks for your nice feedback. The sawbuck is still in good use after four years!

Love the helper!! Very helpful video. Thanks. Hi I eventually got it made and it is very useful. I made an addition to your design by adding a further "V"section to allow a smaller cut. I used one 4ft length cut in two. Bolted it with one bolt and slotted it in the middle of 2 Xs. I'd like to add a photo but can't!

The term "sawbuck" in youtube...holy mooly...what a lot of ideas. After scanning a few, found this one from Lasse, and it was clearly the best. However, I don't understand the 28" line below the 29", as I found the 30degree cuts, when set up on a piece of plywood (I know outside won't be as flat and even as that) the 28" line was wrong. I found 28.5" to be the correct measurement. I would suggest taking one of the assembled "X" pieces, make the 30degree cuts flat with a flat surface, take a small scrap of 2x4 and mark a line...mine was at 28.5 but yours might be different. Also, you may want to put a washer between the two pieces in the "X" brace. Great video and thank you!

@FinnDivine 8 жыл бұрын
+rayvan23 Thanks for your input! Yeah, I probably messed with the imperial measurements. I corrected the 28" to 28.5" in the description. Your idea of using extra washers between X pieces is good one. You may also want to use treated wood to make the contraption more weatherproof. Just used my sawbuck last weekend again. Still works like a charm.

Great video. Me and my son build it tonight. Thanks for the instructional. My only issue is that the five inch bolts were way too long. I'm going to switch to 3 and 1/2 in bolts.

That young lad wanted to help a lot more, and should have let him. And should get a decent hand saw, not a small toothed miter saw. Sawbucks are very handy to have. Like the video.

Haha, thanks for the very accurate input. The thing is, we had just bought that summer house when the video was made. About all tools I had that time were the ones we had bought for our living in the block of flats (our city apartment). You're right, the saw wasn't actually good for cutting even a simple 2-by-4. Since then I've got myself a selection of more proper tools. The boy is nowadays building his own constructions (not to mention fires!) and helping me whenever he feels like it. He's into KZbin 'life hacks' nowadays and he's going to get a Dremel glue gun and a carver tool for his 11th bday in a month. Don't tell him!

Why do the instructions say we need EIGHT bolts. Wouldn't it only use SIX? Or THREE?
@FinnDivine
@FinnDivine 5 жыл бұрын
Ah, it's not eight pieces. 8 is the diameter of the bolt in millimeters, 130 is the length of the bolt in millimeters. You need only THREE bolts. :)

@@FinnDivine Thanks! I am going out today to build this, but I don't have any bolts, nuts, or washers. So I'll make a non-folding one to start with, using screws. Thanks for the instructions. It's very helpful to see how it's done, step by step.

you have 2 measurements in your decscrfiption,,, 28.5 and 29 i'm assuming 28.5 is the correct one?
@FinnDivine
@FinnDivine 8 жыл бұрын
The holes are 74 cm from the end, and the horizontal piece comes under 71 cm mark, which actually convert close to 29 and 28 inches. I can't remember any more why I ended up in 28.5 instead of 28, but it only defines the angle where the X's set when the sawbuck is opened, so I guess it's not that precise. Hope that makes any sense.
