I've been away from flying RC for probably 15-20 years, but now that I've got kids that are old enough to get interested, these simple foam board planes look like a great way to introduce them. And also a good way for me to brush up on my lack of skills before I crash one of my old wooden ones. I'm almost done converting the first plane I built as a teenager to electric, but think I will build one of yours to fly first. Thanks for the very informative build videos and also for sharing the plans so people can build without a kit.

Recently we've adopted our granchildren which required a move back to Idaho from Florida we'd moved two years previous My simple scout was given to a friend who evidently did care less about it. (I knew it wouldn't survive the move so I left it w/ him cause he thought it ws so cool) I'd removed the radio and motor. evidently it was hanging from a tree for two years (never painted it, mind you) still hdd some good parts and my 7 yr old grandson thought it was cool so I asked for it back. Amazingly it survived (ish) we resurected it, will fly it tomorrow, its ready to go, looks like a combat plane but it will fly.. Great aircraft guys, great aircraft. Love what ya'll at Flightest have done for the hobby. ,,, Thanks,

WOW! After sanding bevels with varying degrees of success, I finally got the blade technique down after much practice on scrap. The best "secret" I found to doing this is to treat foam board like iron-on covering - ALWAYS use a new blade and change it at the first sign of a non smooth cut. The blade is still useful, just not for cutting foam board.

If you are an experienced or novice modeler, this video has many, many tips which come from decades’ experience and are happily shared by Josh Bixler who is a master craftsman and designer. Listen to and integrate into your building advice like, “Use the table as your friend.”, “Favor the glue to…”, “This must be square…”, “It will still fly well, but it will look funny.”, “Use soft hands…”.

I really like the look of this plane. I've recently got into mini quads and built a 5 inch racer and also own a collective pitch helicopter but I've been looking at building a Wing and then maybe even a plane afterwards so I really like the look of this. Only downside is shipping. Unfortunately as I live in the UK and to have this shipped is not far off the price of materials. I understand the reasons and it isn't Flitetests fault but I can't justify the cost shipping myself. I know they do plans for scratch building but I don't think I'm confident enough to do that. I hope they eventually start selling their kits in other countries such as the UK as if they did I can think of at least two I'd buy. Until then I'll have to make do with alternatives but keep up the good work Josh and the rest of the Flitetest team, I really enjoy your videos and even if I can't build your plans they still inspired me to get more into this hobby. Also to the people criticising this video just because of a few issues (which I did notice too, but chosen to ignore), so what? Look at it this way, there is still a lot of TV programmes with a much higher budget than these guys who accidentally leave bloopers or errors in and they probably only have say 10 episodes per series. These guys are releasing content every day, of course they're gonna let some issues slip through the net. It's not to say you can't criticise things but it just seems people are too quick to point out the negatives and not focus on the positives which is sad when this content is made for us for free and isn't something they have to do. If the content didn't achieve it's goal of helping you to build this plane then fine, but I watched the video all the way through and can't see anything that would make this impossible to follow and I would be confident building this plane while following the video.
@jefffox86657 жыл бұрын
I have built a number of scratch builds and they are really not too tough to pull off. If you are having issues with printing and taping the plans together, very tedious, I suggest using Staples/Office Depot or whatever the UK equivalent is to print full-size plans. I am able to do this for about $20 CDN and it really simplifies things. Take the full-size plans, cut them out and use some spray adhesive to stick them to poster board, then you have a reusable set of templates. Transfer to foam board, cut out with an Xacto knife and Bobs your uncle.

Jeff Fox thanks for the reply. I'll def take a look in the future. I just completed gluing a Sky Shadow S800 wing that I got for xmas last night so that will hopefully give me at least a bit of practice building and flying a fixed wing
@cosminjuverdeanu36716 жыл бұрын
That's the best plane you have designed ... one single thing for scratch builders - the distance from the leading edge of the wing to the motor should be 3-5 cm longer other wise you will never balance it as it should be. Nice job , nice planes nice plans but if you really give them for 'free' for beginers ... just take in to concideration that not all ppl put fpv, landing gear, and the same type of battery. :*

I was watching you putting the screws in the servos. You said support the screw with your fingers. For me and lots of others out there this is next to impossible. I have neuropathy in my hands so my fingers don't exactly have any feeling. You need to come up with a plastic centering tool that fits over the servo arm with a plastic tube on the servo arm allowing someone like me the ability to easily center the screws.And once screwed in the centering hole the tool can be removed if made right it should center the screw ,and keep the servo arm from moving.

The mini power pod section confused the heck out of me. I was looking into the Simple Scout to see if it accepted standard power pods, but the store page didn't indicate whether it was compatible with the swappable series. I come here to see a mini power pod and hear talk about A and F packs. Finally in the comments for this video I see that it does use B and C packs - but that it has a shorter power pod that isn't swappable compatible. I know you're planning on reuploading this when you've fixed it, but may I also suggest updating the description in the store to clarify the nature of this build's power pod?

help, the power pack was out of stock so I'm building using my own power pack parts and a park 480 motor with 40amp esc. So do I use the power pack box supplied with the kit, then glue the wooden firewall to the front of the box and then attach my motor to that firewall ? This build video shows the esc being glued to the box not far behind the firewall. Since my park 480 is maybe 20 grams heavier than the motor that would come with the power pack - I'm thinking I may need to move the esc farther back to get a good balance - if I glue it to the side of the fuse box will that mess up the lateral balance too much ?

Brandon R that battery sounds a bit heavy, and it's also a 2s so it would not give you the power you would need to lift that kind of weight. You could try scaling up the plan by about 150% or around this would give you a bigger wing area to help with the weight and result in a better balanced model. Hoped this helped. happy flying.😁
