A very nice outcome--demonstrating the many unforeseen difficulties of such a project. Your ingenuity and hard work paid off, and the tree stencil was a fitting final touch. The old piece has at least a generation or two left in her. Lovely.

It is now a lovely piece. The initial photos made the piece seemed confusing re which decade/century it was meant to represent. Now it honors it's history and the stories it has experienced plus it has a fresh and interesting future. Many humans cannot obtain such a refreshed mindset. Very well done!

You should never glue a drawer bottom, slide it in and put 3-4 nails in where it meets the back of the drawer. This will allow for movement of drawers in temp changes.

I was thinking the same thing. Since so many homes have heat and a/c to maintain a constant temperature and humidity, maybe there won’t be too much expansion or contraction of wood to make part of the drawers split. It is a beautiful piece now though and hopefully someone will appreciate it and want it.

Thanks for your comments! I normally I wouldn’t glue and probably should have mention that but believe it or not they were glued in to begin with! When I’ve done it before I used finishing nails. Each piece I do is very different, thanks for noticing and commenting I appreciate that!! 😀

One more thing, the pieces slid I had lots of give so any expansion probably would be compensated!
