I, myself, have not done woodworking like that, but I have been fascinated with it since I was a young girl. My first stepfather’s dad was a carpenter & he had his own shop. I LOVED going in there, watching him, the smell & he even let me go into the front & pretend to be his secretary at his desk. I was probably all of about 6-8 yrs old & this was early 60’s.

Congrats on dipping into woodworking! You've got some good structure there, but I'd recommend getting a good sander next. Sanding the wood before painting is not only going to give you a better finish, make the paint last longer, make it possible to dust the surface and keep it clean, but that will help you achieve that finished look that you're going for. A matte sealer afterward will also help keep the piece looking nice.

Working on interior decor projects is a rewarding experience, and a very endearing way to allow us to explore our creativity and imaginative capacity. When I had to organize and decorate the living room of my new apartment, I was faced with a type of task in which I had not the slightest experience. It was around this time that I fell in love with sofas with tan leather upholstery and decided I wanted a Bellini sofa with that type of finish. I got it at Manhattan Home Design. I was also very interested in the value of the general color palette, the lighting design, the different decorating styles, etc. A whole world to explore. :D

Home Depot also has cull piles where you can find imperfect wood marked down 70% off. They spray it with a purple mark to indicate cull. Last year I happened to be at Lowes a couple times where I noticed they were throwing out scrap. I filled up a couple shopping carts that I took home when wood first started climbing rapidly in price. Most of that find was solid decking pieces. Thank you for posting this video, some great ideas I can use all this scrap wood for. I also plan on making some kitchen countertop with much of my scrap.
