Oh my God, I have a set up similar to this and I got the idea from my firehouse so it’s quite interesting to see other peoples ways of doing it. I have mine just like this, but instead of it all sitting on the floor I have mine with the fan on the wall and the exhaust outside is going up through my roof. Well the side that goes to the vehicles mufflers I actually have a metal quick disconnect with magnets on them so that if I forget to take it off. It’ll come off the tailpipe of the car when I drive out.

Thanks for the design idea. I copied most of this but did use more rigid aluminum/plastic sheathed tubing and some HVAC ducting for the bits right at the exhaust. Works great!

I may upgrade my tubing as well.

How hot does exhaust actually get? Have you had any trouble with the hose melting or the fan overheating?
@tedbooth92732 жыл бұрын
Haven't had a problem with heat and the fan. The hose can get a little soft. Won't work with a diesel... LOL

Would be nice to see whole set up in action

looks neat. i'm struggling with this at home. i have a mazda rotary which is more of a garage ornament, want to start it at least once a month (and not drive) and need to warm it up first (because rotary) to drive as i have a steep driveway immediately from my garage door so i need to punt it fairly hard to get it up and out. issues with exhaust heat (even at idle) tripping the fan's overheat safety and if i give it a rev the unburnt fuel ignites in the duct and blows it apart. i use stove pipes and high heat rated aluminium flexible duct (flexi duct comes apart on a backfire). so far i'm about $200 (AUD) in the hole and that's with a free inline fan and some hvac ducting for the "cold" end to get the fumes out the end of the yard away from the house.

Still works great.

This thing still working? Doesn't look like it was made for higher temps. I'm in Hayden ID btw!😀
@tedbooth92732 жыл бұрын
Yes, it is still working. Car temperatures don't seem to bother it, but I tried to use it on my diesel pusher, overheated the hose and caused it to collapse. Only use it on gas engines now.

Are you just ducting it out a window?

I'm gonna do this for my cigar shop

They make commercial systems for this - they're very visible in almost every Fire Hall, however they're thousands of dollars. This is a great idea, I'm researching something similar for my garage, trying to decide on how many CFM's I need - I primarily work on motorcycles. I found a 500 CFM garage exhaust fan with 6" ducting a guy close to me is selling, but perhaps that may be a bit overkill.
@tedbooth92733 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I wasn't willing to spend thousands for a commercial application for my minimal use. I have used this on my cars, motor home, and motorhome generator. Allows me to run the engines in the winter while keeping it cozy inside

Won't the fumes in the air from the car cause a spark in this exhaust fan leading to a fire or other safety concerns? Also a link to the fan to specs?
I'm not sure, but it is variable speed. It is strong enough it will try to compress the hose if the vehicle isn't running. I have used in on most of my cars including the motor home. I love it

This probably works on smaller displacement engines. Do not try this on a muscle car.... LoL I tried making something similar to this for my 1967 El Camino. I fired up the engine. It looked like 2 of those air powered wiggle guys at the used car lots, but on meth. The tubes were all tore to hell within minutes and I ended up going to NAPA and buying 3" rubber exhaust tubing instead.... Hahaha
@tedbooth92733 жыл бұрын
Ran it on my 65 Cobra (replica). It will fit over the side pipes and keeps up with the blower on high.
@precision253 жыл бұрын
@@tedbooth9273 WOW that's...... Impressive and interesting. Surprised it stayed on the side pipes. IDK, maybe mine just has allot more compression, because it shredded the foil tubes within seconds. I'm running the exact same setup, except with a larger fan
@tedbooth92733 жыл бұрын
@@precision25 Its a snug fit and I put a spring clamp on too. I run the fan on high. So far so good.....
