Third time's a charm. This video was deleted and reuploaded to comply with a bogus copyright takedown notice manually filed by Par2Pro. I don't know their motivation for the claim, but in the very least it seems like bad behavior since they never attempted to contact me before filing the legal notice. Happy Sunday Everyone!

@@curtisbme This was a little different than a normal ContentID claim which results in transfer of monetization. They filed a legal takedown notice, which would have resulted in a copyright strike on my account. My options were to let the strike happen and appeal it, or delete the original video and reupload. To me, it wasn't worth the fight of an appeal which on the surface seemed like an open/shut case, but you never know. They had already wasted enough of my time so I chose to reupload.

I did a diy overhead garage storage platform with harbor frieght hoist and garage door parts and my manual safety was just some manual chains attached to the ceiling. I have to hook and unhook them each time I use my platform (4 on each corner) but safety is a peace of mind thing with kiddos running around. I would feel comfortable sleeping under it with this manual safety too.

Great build. I also have built a simulator in my garage with the intent to be able to move it out of the way to park cars back into the garage. I didn’t have the ceiling height to do what you did so I lift mine to the side wall with a winch. I also made mine out of wood because I have no experience with welding. My cost is closer to $2,500 because I didn’t need to move or change any walls. I did copy your Murphy bar and it was a great addition. Thanks for the video

Would love some more conversation about the software and screen setup. I know you're using a 16:9 projector, and it looks like your screen is a little taller than a 4:3 screen would normally be. I have seen many questions over the years where people basically say "THIS is the screen size I will be using." and it's some crazy oddball resolution. Do the programs work with really odd aspect ratios? Are they locked in at 16:9 and 4:3? Can they do some custom? Does it even matter when the projector itself is locked in at 16:9, 16:10, or 4:3? I don't know the answers and am sincerely asking. I always figured a bright 1920x1200 used business model of the right throw distance would be a great choice. Weaker contrast, but would take both 1600x1200 (4:3) or 1920x1080, and deliver a lot of versatility when it comes to the projector... But I have no idea if the software supports this, or some other 'weird' resolution perhaps? Would love your thoughts. Sucks that you had to re-upload this. Keep up the great work.
@TheHookUp Жыл бұрын
I can only officially confirm the sim software that I use (GSPro) will work with any aspect ratio. I have tested some other projectors in my sim and found that with a 4K projector the resolution of 2450x2160 fits my screen perfectly. I just use the nvidia control panel to create a custom resolution and select that resolution when GSPro starts. Amazingly it doesn't stretch or skew any UI elements or terrain at this odd resolution. Edit: to clarify, I line up the top and bottom of the screen with the projected image (the 2160px), then adjust the resolution until the sides fit perfectly. The side resolution just projects "black", so in a completely dark room you would probably see light bleed, but I definitely don't golf in the dark.

Then I stumbled on this video and was confused for a moment cause I hadn't seen any other videos on golf sims by you. Thank you for the cliff notes, very helpful. My budget doesn't extend to the BENQ LK936ST, so I will look for a budget 1080p projector - it will preferably need to be high lumens, able to project from the side (can't mount) at around 7’ (tee to screen, using the Garmin R10) and also able to project 1:1 ratio (Net Return Home). The BenQ LH600ST looks like it could be a good option - the lumens just don't look that hot. Thanks again!

@Soarbywire5 ай бұрын
@TheHookup Any chance you will be comparing the newer released projectors specifically suited for Golf simulators? I know the options and criteria are broad - short or long throw, vertical/ horizontal keystone, corner fit, lumen brightness, throw ratio, projector best for small or large rooms, input lag (thanks for the new gaming projectors review!), REC colour accuracy, wifi casting, aspect ratio, projector resolution (1080p or 4K) etc.
@TheHookUp5 ай бұрын
I don't know if there's a large enough market to warrant a full review, but here are the golf sim projector cliffs notes: 1) Short throw is preferable for not casting shadows onto your impact screen. 2) Contrast and black floor do not matter since you'll be using them in a room with high ambient light (so you can see the golf ball). 3) Brightness and color do matter. 4) 1080p and WUXGA are good budget options, the 4K resolution upgrade is marginal since impact screens generally have heavy texture that will diminish the 4K clarity. 5) Most people will end up with DLP projectors, but if you want to use a rear mounted swing camera you should opt for a 3LCD option (usually from Epson or Panasonic) instead because your swing camera will show all the rainbows from the DLP. 6) Input lag has no effect in a golf sim. Launch monitors have lag times between 500-2000ms, so adding a fraction of a second more from the projector makes no difference. I've used a bunch of projectors in my sim, but have currently settled on the BENQ LK936ST that I bought for two main reasons: 1) It's designed to be extra dust proof and temperature tolerant, which is important since my sim is in my garage. 2) I use a nearly 1:1 aspect ratio, so with a 1080p projector (BENQ 671ST) I was losing a significant amount of resolution to the strange aspect ratio.

Excellent video. I'm replicating your DIY Golf Simulator in my garage and have a question about the Carl's Place impact screen. Question: You ordered with the grommets and flaps... when you measured the inner dimensions of your carbon steel frame to order your custom Carl's place impact screen, did you add a bit of slack when ordering? For instance: my dimensions are 105"W and 129"L (inner dimensions of carbon steel frame). Carl's Place recommended ordering a 100"W and 124"L tscreen o account for 2.5" grommet (black edging portion of impact screen) on each side. Any suggestions?
@TheHookUp8 ай бұрын
Yes, I ordered the screen 1" smaller than the inner diameter of the frame to allow for a 1/2" gap on each side. In reality the gap is more like 1/4" on either side due to stretch. You can briefly see at 7:11 in the video that the viewable area is 100x107 while the total screen size is 105x112 and the inner diameter of my frame is 106x113.

Curious: what insulation did you used for your garage door? Looks like some sort of radiant barrier? How did you get it to stick to the garage panels?
@TheHookUp Жыл бұрын
It's just Styrofoam insulation from lowes with a radiant barrier backing. I cut the dimensions exact enough that it is just wedged in between the metal top and bottom of each panel. I also drilled a small hole in the center of each insulation piece and injected a small amount of "great stuff" foam to make sure the foam isn't in contact with the actual metal of the door since the air gap is where most of the insulating properties come from.
