I watched this video when you initially posted it, and thought “ It’s nice, but no big deal.. it is just a kit.” I don’t know if I was just in a bad mood, or the taxes were due or something.. Because I just watched it again, realized it wasn’t a kit, the quality of components, the watch like precision of your layout, and the positioning and soldering looks more appropriate in an art museum than the inside of a mere amplifier! Your work is truly stunning!! The only thing that could make it nicer would be switchable rectification (from diodes to say a GZ34 tube) and that’s just an opinion, not a fact. You built it so nice, I’m motivated now to build one myself… So Thank you, Beautiful build

Yes à switchable rectification could be interesting, but it’s too late for me. May be Ez80 in place of Gz34 ? Anyway, thank for your nice comment.

I am totally astounded! Such beauty and mastery! Been just thinking those days about running heater wire on top of chassis (I write wire because I thought of making it DC and running just the positive on wire and negative through the chassis). And the "curtain" between the power and signal section ... Still I wonder: why just 1W? Isn't that an original PT? And why so much heater wiring?
@jernejkurincic9050
@jernejkurincic9050 2 жыл бұрын
Another note: All the tubes you use have a 12,6V heater. You could use 12,6 heater and so the wiring can be much thinner
@crisetmoc7182
@crisetmoc7182 2 жыл бұрын
Continuous heating is a great idea. In this case, it is not even necessary to remove the "wire" from the outside of the chassis. I have many amps from 40W to 5W, the 1W was missing in the collection : +) ... and 1W is really efficient in my home. I wanted everything to be perfectly accessible and clear. For reasons of space, the star distribution of the 6.3 is off-center, hence the idea of the cable duct for the heating. I really enjoyed making this amp during the first confinement in the spring of 2020. I don't understand "Isn't that a PT"?
@crisetmoc7182
@crisetmoc7182 2 жыл бұрын
@@jernejkurincic9050 It is true in this case I had only to feed through pins 4 and 5 and a single drilling of the chassis would have been enough. But the radiation is proportional to the voltage :+) !

Be care, the DC would be present on the potentiometer and its power could be critical. It will be better to use a variable power resistor with a least a power of 2watts. Be care also to big noises « CRACKS » in the loudspeaker.

Cracking music. And that amp looks amazing, very nice clean build, just a shame its only 1 watt. This quiet revolution is NOT for me! I thought we'd have 1000 watt guitar amps by now! 100 watt amps were too quiet in the 70s
@larrysteinke1839
@larrysteinke1839 3 жыл бұрын
we have PAs for that these days. 20 or 30 watts is plenty enough for most situations and 1 "good" watt is plenty enough for home and studio. you can also slave the output of such a low watt amp to some other "house" amp stack set on clean.
@larrysteinke1839
@larrysteinke1839 3 жыл бұрын
mind you, for almost the same cost and effort i would have used a bigger OT like 125D or 125E because the 270DX PT should support EL84s to give 15 watts. then add some power scaling or built in attenuator load to give an option for 1 watt, then you have some more flexibility.

The design of the mod is inspired by robrobinette.com The mod in the preamp is optional with three switches: "Loudness", "Bright" and "Clipper". But each switch has a conventionnel position which respect the schematic of the JCM800 Effectively for the output section the ECC82 replaces the 2 EL34.

The separation of the 6.3v AC power and heating part from the preamp part is very effective against 50Hz or 60Hz hum.
