The reason pink dyes wash out quickly is cause there's lots of red pigment in it, and red pigment washes out the quickest. Green/Blue is the hardest to remove, which is why the Lime Twist color stuck way longer :) If you want the pink to stay in longer though, leave the dye in for a few hours or sleep with it in. It will get really dark/vibrant but will stay in way better (also use way too much dye for your hair, semi permanents do not process so the hair needs to be saturated thoroughly)!

I loved your review! Super helpful. I get my hair dyed at a salon every 7-8 weeks including root touch up but in between my pastel lavender colour fades - so will defo check out marshmallow for touch ups between appointments

+superduperstrange 7-8 weeks is very good lasting time for a pastel colour, it's great that you don't have to constantly keep dying it, especially cos it can get expensive! Being honest, the Marshmallow does only last about a week, so it might not give brilliant results if you use it as touch up, but it's worth a try - what I can promise you is that this brand of dye is so gentle, you definitely won't damage your hair at all by dying potentially more often than usual. No peroxide, no damage! Just be sure to wear gloves when applying the dye! I hope you get great results :-)

+Terr0rByte1 when it fades it fades quite nicely to a light ash blonde so I don't mind so much. Lasting a week or so would be perfect for me just to add some temporary vibrancy back in for special events in between appointments. I'm scared of dyeing my own hair and it staining or something! Got to love the non damaging aspect of it, bleaching does a pretty good job of that on its own! Although having said that, mines not too bad. Do you get yours bleached professionally?

Well that sounds really nice, I hope the Marshmallow adds something nice to it in between! And don't worry about dying it yourself - Marshmallow is a very gentle shade that doesn't stain at all - it doesn't even stain your skin if you accidentally drip some onto yourself, and there's no chance of it staining any pillows or the bathroom either. If you've never dyed your own hair, just be sure to wear some disposable gloves when you apply the dye - I literally put gloves on both hands and squirt the dye onto one hand and massage it through the hair, repeating until my entire head of hair is soaked in it. I would recommend leaving it for about 30 mins to make sure it definitely sticks. When you wash it out in the shower after this just rinse with water, it will run pink and look a bit scary, but after a few minutes, the water should run clear again which means all the excess dye is gone. You probably know this already, but using conditioner once it's running clear is also a great way to lock in the colour, and if you can stand it, the cooler the water the better. Sorry if you know all that - just thought I'd throw it in for some extra advice! And I do get my hair professionally bleached - bleach is the only thing I've never done myself. I plan to one day, just looking around for what looks like a good home bleach to use :-)

This was very helpful, thanks! Today I'm going to dye my hair with the shade Marshmallow with some of my friends. I'm pretty nervous as only one of us has ever died their hair... Any tips? Personally I do not want a very vibrant colour so I'm not sure how long to leave the colour in for. Also, my hair has a very subtle barely-there blond ombre and is quite a dark blond (honey blond guess). I would really appreciate your help if u have time! Cheers!

+Jack Sledden The Pinkissimo took about three weeks to fade to the point where I wanted to dye over it, and I don't think mixing it with Neutral would help - that would probably make it just as ineffective as Candyfloss and Marshmallow. Different brands are better at different colours - I know that Manic Panic are brilliant for pinks that really don't budge for months. Crazy Color's just not so great at pink, in my experience.

Whenever I use semi permanent it dyes my hair a different colour permanently. I dyed my hair all over purple and as I started to wash it out after a few weeks it went blue and eventually green but I did use the directions dye.....

+Charlotte Rouse That can be a natural thing that often happens with hair dye in general, and more likely to happen with temporary dyes. I'm currently using a light purple dye and when I first dye it, it's solid purple, but then as it fades, it turns pink, and I have two random sections of my hair that have gone blue! It doesn't happen to everyone, as everyone's hair is different and the natural condition of your hair will have different resiliences to dye, but quite often when dye is fading, the process can take out one of the primary colours that make it up - so with your purple, the red component of the dye must have weakened, turning it more blue, as red and blue indeed make purple, and then since blue is close to green, it's understandable that it might take on a green effect with further fading. It can be a natural thing, and annoying if you're hoping to keep the original colour for longer, but it can be really cool to watch it change too :-)

No, I only wash my hair every three days, so it fades of its own accord without even washing. If you want to dye your slowly, then something like Candy Floor or Marshmallow is definitely better to start with as they're much more subtle than Pinkissimo like you say - definitely don't use Pinkissimo straight away. Maybe see what Candy Floss does in your hair and how it lasts, and then you can maybe build up to a brighter shade if you want to :-)

I've never used the shampoo, but it's worth a try. I apply my dye to dry hair, and without conditioner - conditioner will just make the colour paler.

okay so I got candyfloss randomly and am gonna get pinkissimo now and maybe just mix them a bit. I only want a few streaks so if the color that comes out of a mix of both is pretty it'll be great.

I think if you did that, the Candyfloss wouldn't really do anything because it's such a weak dye, and Pinkissimo is way stronger. If you want a paler version of Pinkissimo, I'd recommend mixing it with conditioner instead, at a ratio of roughly 2 parts dye to one part conditioner. If that still looks too bright after mixing, add more conditioner.

Dye does naturally fade over time, but washing it definitely does most of the fading - the best way to slow it down is to only wash your hair a couple of times a week with shampoo. If you want to wash it more often, do it with just cold water and conditioner, and try not to use too many hot tools or products on it. Other things can fade dye, like loads of exposure to the sun, and chlorine in swimming pools, but the biggest cause is washing for sure!

You can use any bleach, they all pretty much do the same thing. Crazy Color sell a bleaching kit so if you're buying one of their dyes, you might as well get your bleach from them too. You don't really need a tutorial for using the dye, cos you literally just put on disposable gloves and either rub the dye all over your hair with your hands or apply it with a brush, then wait 15-30 minutes, and wash it out with cool water. I actually did a video called DIY Hair Dying 101 on this channel that goes through the steps if you wanna check that out, but it's very simple :)

Ah, if you have black hair, it won't do anything unless you use bleach :-( you can use any brand hair bleach at all though, they all do the same thing, so hopefully you can find something else.

my best pink so far is special effect. I use atomic pink, if i do not want it "atomic" i mix it with conditioner (like 2 or 3 part conditioner for 1 part dye) and it give me a nice paler shade that last for months.

i create my own palette by mixing different color dyes (special effect or punky color) and also conditioner, i recommend it very much if you can only have pastels :P i ordered my first bottles of crazy colours yesterday, i cannot wait to try this brand too! I've only ever used Crazy Color but it's brilliant. It's really gentle on your scalp and never burns, and it never stains anything - I have white towels and none of the colours have ever stained them, even straight after dying! And actually, I just quit my job, so I'm gonna enjoy a couple of darker colours before I get my next job :-P

+martea mad All dyes work differently, and in all honesty, the Crazy Color pinks never stuck in my hair all that long. The Pinkissimo wasn't too bad, but the lighter ones washed out way too fast. My friend used to use Manic Panic and their pink dyes stuck like hell and were impossible to get out! If you're looking for a pink that'll really stick, Manic Panic are the ones to go with. Crazy Color are pretty good for most other colours though.
