Be sure to put tape down on both sides of the faux fur before you cut out the pattern, that way you will not inhale the micro fiber particles, and its way easier to clean up. Very good Job
@WhitneyLu6 жыл бұрын
Oh wow I never thought to use tape! Thank you for that suggestion. It’s perfect timing, I was just about to cut faux fur!

so in love with this coat whitney😍!! definitely going to have a go at making it, I want to add in batting but I'm not too sure when or how I should put it in the coat and how many layers?
@WhitneyLu6 жыл бұрын
Thank you! When I use to sell these I would add 2 layers of the 1" batting to the fur pieces . I would baste Stitch them together on the seam allowance. After that you can go along wit the rest of the tutorial without any issues, it'll just be thicker to sew through! I hope your coat turns out perfect! :)
@monkeycheeseme118 жыл бұрын
how many yards of fabric did you use?
@WhitneyLu8 жыл бұрын
+brielle sailor A yard and a half each for the faux fur and lining fabric
@iamamarie8 жыл бұрын
there are only two pages coming up to print. aren't there supposed to be more?
@WhitneyLu8 жыл бұрын
+Felicia Upchurch Hi! If you're print settings are on actual size it should print out on multiple sheets of paper to make the full pattern. Or another option I would take the PDF file to a printer location and they would print it out on a large format printer. It'll just be on big piece of paper like a original pattern.

Hi Whitney! i love your work and thank you for this video. i noticed you said beginner friendly my question is , is it beginner friendly enough that if you dont know how to use a sewing machine you can still make it ? I am trying to make this for my birthday on the 30th.
@WhitneyLu8 жыл бұрын
+HilaryoftheHood Hey hey! Aww Thanks :) Hmm If you're not going to use a sewing machine things get a little more messy (glue will be involved lol) but still doable. But a good solution to "no sew" would be to use fabric glue (or real super glue) for the stitch areas. For the boning I would use one that has a fabric cover over it so that it's easier to glue on. You could use stitch witchery to finish the edges if your not using lining. Or..... You could use heat and bond transfer paper to iron on the lining fabric so that the ugly side of the fur is covered but that's optional. One thing I would suggest is that you get some batting and glue/hand sew it into the curved parts of the heart shape so that it keeps it puffiness. But yeah some durable fabric glue, some stitch witchery/heat and bond paper and a fabric covered boning I believe that you could do the pattern with out a sewing machine. Also I am making some of the coats to sell on my Etsy if you would rather not deal with the glue at all lol www.etsy.com/shop/WhitneyLuStudio?ref=hdr_shop_menu

how did you make your own patterns for high fashion clothing?
@WhitneyLu8 жыл бұрын
+Breanna Davis Hmmm, I made my patterns with Adobe illustrator software. But if your meaning like the knowledge part of how to do it, I have my Bachelors in Fashion design so school and mainly work experience has helped me figure clothing patterns.
@breannadavis15818 жыл бұрын
+Whitney Lu thank you lol i have been considering doing fashion and i gave myself a challenge (to learn, well try, how to make sewing patterns from like high fashion stuff) but its had and i just thought it was really cool on how you figured out how to make your own pattern for this coat

Hi, I purchase my pattern but it comes out regular size paper size. How do I make it big enough for me to start? I wanna get started soon for my 25 bday shoot next month!!!
@WhitneyLu8 жыл бұрын
+La'Tara Dickerson You would have to fix your printer setting to the actual size, it should print out on multiple prices of paper or take it to a printer location and they will print it out on a large format printer.
@avalonfaison79714 жыл бұрын
Hey I’m making this with my students and I purchased and printed out your pattern. I noticed that the patttern is slightly different that the one you used. Where exactly should the arm hole openings be?
@WhitneyLu4 жыл бұрын
Oh yes! I made pattern changes after making the blue one because it felt a bit awkward. In between where the notches are on the front two pieces (that make one half of the heart shape for the front) is where the arm whole should be.

How long does this take you to make?
@WhitneyLu8 жыл бұрын
+Kayla Straughter Hey, out side of cutting the pattern and fabric it should only take 2-3 hours. Maybe faster depending on your sewing speed. I had to stop and start a lot since I was recording every step and have a 1 year old. But I'm making another one today so I could let you know for sure how long it took me!
@WhitneyLu8 жыл бұрын
+Kayla Straughter 2 hrs and 30 mins (I added batting and some hand sewing)

@WhitneyLu7 жыл бұрын
+Nilu Askari Hey thank you! For printing you need to: >press print the print option box will show up. >Under the "page size and handling section" you need to click POSTER. It should show you a preview of your pattern placed on several pieces of paper.

I bought the pattern & went to staples to print it on poster paper but its small.. what size paper do you recommend to use?
@WhitneyLu6 жыл бұрын
Any paper would work, Poster paper is actually ideal since it's sturdy. The reason why it got printed small is because of the printer setting. You or the worker at staples need to set the printer to "Poster" mode so that it'll print on multiple pages. OR print on a large format printer and it should do all the work for you, because the pattern is already formatted for that.
