DIY Hinged Box in clay. Tutorial, ceramics box with lid.

This video is a tutorial from start to finish on how to make a hinged box. I use the Pinching technique and cut the lid open. The hinges are made of a wooden stick and it has also got a locking system.

Thank you! Yes, the combination works good together. You have to be careful with shrinkage and positioning the hinges, when it’s all burned there’s no room for errors. Cheers from a sunny Finland today!☀️

A good idea and one which I teach my students, is NOT to see-saw the cut around the lid but to use a sharp knife tool and to cut the lid in one fluid motion drawing the knife at an angle all around the lid line so the two surfaces are smooth rather than jagged. Try it next time and thanks heaps for this tutorial. It's a great way to make the hinges.

Thank you Linda for your kind words! Yes, I think a sharp knife will do a better, smoother rim and lid matching! By carving from inside I made it fit , but a smooth cut would be better. Thank you for your comments and kind words Linda! Cheers from a cold slippery Finland!

Thank you! You will get the best result if you burn the lid and box where they are suposed to sit. I once tried to burn them separately and they didn’t fit well after that. I hope you get some great lidded boxes! Cheers! Mika
