Use a u-bolt instead of an eyebolt at the end of the tube. The u-bolt will not untwist like the eyebolt. You may not even need the locktite.

Thanks very much. I may build one for the deer behind our house during the legal months to feed them.

Sent to some rancher friends in Texas and other uses occurred to me if modified. A shorter or LONGER tube - maybe larger diameter) without holes could be used for other things. Without a hole in the capped end and if the screw plug were sealed with melted wax it would be waterproof for burying.

These work great. We have three of them. Just remember they can get wasps in them in the off season. Have to use swivels on each end of the chain.

Put the eye bolt on the clean out plug, it’s easier to tighten!

A much better and more durable way to make that device, is to get some large Diesel truck exhaust pipe about 4.5" diameter. Cap one end with a piece of 1/8" thick steel plate welded on it, and put your swivel there. For the other end, use a rain cap for a Diesel truck exhaust stack, but modify it to be held closed with a bolt with a nut welded to the side of the pipe. No hog is going to be able to break it open. It may cost a bit more to make it out of steel, but you will be able to put it into your will so someone can inherit it!

Great idea! I never thought of that. Not sure where I'd find a truck exhaust pipe. Maybe a wrecking yard. Thank you,

@@scottcardwell6387 Go to any repair shop that works on heavy trucks or sells parts for them, they will be able to set you up with everything that you need, except for the swivel joint. But you can make your own if you want to.

This hog tube has been great for drawing in the hogs on our place. And they stay long enough to take them out!

would this work with deer also?
@scottcardwell638710 күн бұрын
I found that the whitetail deer won't bother pushing the tube around. I think it's because it's heavy when full. However, the Fallow deer and Black Buck Antelope spend as much time on the Hog Tube and the hogs. I hope this helps, please let me know if you have any other questions.

I can see it working. We used to put peanut butter in bowling ball holes and watch them push them around all over the place.

Now that would be fun to watch.

Don't you have problems with squirrels eating through the plastic

The hogs will eat the squirrels 🤣

Yes, they do attempt to chew thru the holes but eventually give up. The pipe wall is too thick for them to chew thru. Good question

The deer is smart enough to rock it back and forth. Smarter than a hog.
