Maybe add a disclaimer next time about how toxic UV resin is. A "do as i say not as I do" type thing would be cute. Gloves and proper ventilation are required. Love your work, just dont want to see anyone get sick

UV resin has to be in a clear/translucent mold to work. The light couldn’t reach those spots that didn’t work, I’m guessing.

Agreed! I think he could have also saved time and materials by using just regular epoxy resin bc then he wouldn’t have to go in shaving the cloudy bits and basically re-polishing it with UV resin and the jaw + the flowers in the top part of the skull wouldn’t have to be redone since setting the whole thing in one go would take less time than attempting to set the UV then redoing it. Also he could have used a stronger UV lamp as well, the UV strength speeds up curing considerably. 😗👌🏽

Instead of using your hands for resin I really suggest these things that look like brushes, but they have silicone tips in all different shapes & sizes so when you're done you can cure the resin & peel it off. I used to use my hands for resin too, but I got the brushes for christmas & I use them all the time now. You can get them pretty cheap on amazon.

epoxy resin/crystal resin (the two part stuff) is best used for silicone molds that are opaque and esp large projects like this. UV resin needs see through molds and also tends to shrink a bit but hey u live and u learn!

(O_O) resin also releases very toxic fumes that can cause respiratory issues so please also wear a respiratory mask with the right filters next time. This seriously is nothing to be played with

THIS!!! Really, I've heard absolut horror stories about resin/epoxy, it can cause all sorts of bad things, lung cancer etc. etc.!!!!!!!
@firegodessreiko
@firegodessreiko 3 жыл бұрын
@@jessine the horror stories are just that....stories. There is nothing dangerous about it so long as you follow the instructions on the label. I worked in decorative resins for nearly ten years WITH a pre-existing asthma condition and have suffered no ill effects. This whole idea that it causes cancer etc is a myth perpetuated by the internet.... Like... don't put it in your mouth....proooobably don't touch it with your bare hands, but really....calm down. You're putting yourself at more risk for cancer by going outside without sunscreen than you are using UV resin occasionally....
@jessine
@jessine 3 жыл бұрын
@@firegodessreiko I'm very happy you're well and healthy, other people however are not, due to exposure to resins. Just because one person doesn't get lung cancer from smoking all their life doesn't mean that others won't get it either. Different bodies, different reactions. Epoxy has toxins and CAN effect health.
@squeegie-beckenheim
@squeegie-beckenheim 3 жыл бұрын
Yep, worked with resin for years. Once had a coworker who never bothered with a respirator, until he had a doctor ask him if he'd ever consider quitting smoking. When he said he'd never smoked a day in his life they barely believed him. Said his lungs sounded like someone who went through a pack a day. Wear a mask, it's not hard and it's just not worth the risk to your health

UV resin won't cure if you use an opaque mold. It has to be at least a semi-transparent mold so the uv light can shine all the way through! Otherwise only the side you shine the uv light hardens and the other side will stay gooey. They say tacky/sticky surfaces on resin can be fixed by rubbing it away with acetone but... it never worked for me , , , , , , ALSO! I haven't tried this one out yet but I hear another solution to cure the tackiness is with the uv light while the resin piece is underwater. I'd recommend something like that for a smaller piece though lmao, , , tiny p.s. Love all your videos! Please wear gloves/mask when working with resin. aah!

From what I've heard- to reduce the stickiness from UV resin let it finish curing in direct sunlight. The overall gooey-ness of the skull right from the mold was most likely the result of not fully cured UV resin too. Clear moulds make a huge difference for that!

If you don't "agree' with the art, which isn't even what art is about, then just stop looking at it? This looks so cool!! Some tips if you re-try this; Uv resin needs to have light from all sides so thats why the teeth didn't work (the flowers look cooler anyway) To make the seam less noticable you can use placticine to seperate each side and I would have pluged half of the jaw hole thing, did the green layer, take the clay out and then do the purple layer. All in all you did realy well with making a mould. And the skull came out super awesome!!!

Hey dude! Skull came out so awesome! Would be really great if you could let your viewers know about the dangers of working with resin. The fumes it releases are massively carcinogenic and you really need to be wearing a respirator. Also, you should probably know that resin that hasn't cured correctly is hazardous waste and cant be put in your normal household waste. Stay safe with resin folks!
