Excellent video, which gave me some tips about making my own speakers. The hole cutter looks a much better way than my original idea to use jigsaw! The full range speaker also makes a significant difference, even when listened to on KZbin. They don't seem to be easily available here in the UK but I'm sure there will be equivalents available.
Thank you so much for the informative and well crafted video. I am going to follow your example and use all the same ‘ingredients’. It will be my second DIY speaker build- back then I was 16. Many, many decades have passed since but the urge remains. Arigatō from Canada🙏

Hi i liked the way the product was professionally done. I have query in the video at the "creating Unit mounting Opening and Openings 7.58; you used two screws , which ore drilled to both the wooden plank. Instead would it be good to have a coupler screw and nut sort fixture instead of just a rough thread screw which drills into wooden blank; this can damage the wooden plank for threads, if screws be removed for repair or replacement work later. what would you think if we have nut plugged into the bottom plank and then screw from top side?

A minor question and a candid opinion: Why did you use only 2 screws on the rear panel instead of 4? You may consider a gentle flax oil polishing on the surface for an even better finishing appearance. However though, a fairly practical and a good job, worth to be an instructive applied course work you put out there. I like to own a pair. Enjoy it. 👍👏🙂
@gontadiy Жыл бұрын
We used only two because the fixing strength was sufficient. We also wanted to make adjustments, so we focused on ease of opening and closing. As you said, oiling it makes it look better. I applied beeswax wax later. I would like to continue to enjoy making things. Thank you very much.
@Catawallupin8 ай бұрын
I was also curious about only using two screws on the back and what kind of wood protective finish was used. It would be better to have an airtight seal around the edges of the back panel and connection terminal hole so that the port tube is the only escape for air. I love how the corner joints continue the grain on all sides. I could never have made my cabinets look that good. The right tools for the job do help improve the finished work.
@xmusic3k Жыл бұрын
@@edwarscastellanos6407 Saludos Amigo.

The trick with speaker cabinets is in the reflex port. Ideally you need it as long a path as possible in order to extend the bass, but the precise geometry affects the distortion. Since the design is complicated to compute, it would be good to copy an existing design.

Thanks so much for sharing this. I love music, all types. I have bought a great many items over the years, and during Covid I bought a Naim Nova for convenience and then started to look at speakers. I was horrified by the lack of build quality of so called quality speakers. I sent 3 pairs of Focal’s back (shockingly bad) B&Ws felt a little flimsy and dull, Paradigm sounded good and was better built but was damaged on receipt and the dealer irritated me so I ended up with Sonus Faber. These are the ones built in Italy (not China) the build is better but not perfect but I do love the warm (a little coloured) sound. To be honest my favourite piece of equipment is a 33 year old Pioneer A400 amp. At the time I narrowed the amps down to the A400 and a Nakamichi (can’t remember the model) however the Nak was 3 times the price (which I couldn’t afford) for perhaps marginally better sound. I never have regretted buying the A400. What you’ve created looks wonderful, I’d love to hear them. What drivers did you use?

Love this video. I’ve been making wooden speaker cabinets for over 15 years. I use cellulose based drivers and tonewood. Have you tried coating the wood with dissolved minerals such as sugar, salt, Epsom salts and other water soluble minerals? This coating allows the wood to resonate evenly across frequencies and minimises the need for sound absorbing materials. You can also add a layer of colophony dissolved in turpentine substitute which has acoustic properties and aesthetic ones too.
@gontadiy Жыл бұрын
Thank you very much. I am very glad to hear a veteran of homebrew speakers say that. Thanks also for the advice. After creation, I applied poaching wax. I think it has increased the strength and improved the sound. I have never heard of water soluble mineral coating before. It sounds like a very good thing to do.
