can I pull off a basic snorkel attached to a hose connected to a float above for a 10ft dive at least? I'm only looking to do small recreational exploration. I really don't want to have to buy a ventilator... They're so pricey!

Offcourse can you do that - but your lung will be pressed together by the water pressure so that you are not able to breathe any more...

I know how to make one, just by looking at it. brilliant design. It is so quiet when the lid is on, but economically, it is better to use a pond air pump with a pressure relief switch. and gauge, then proceed to make the multi bottle manifold without a switch, just the air filter, and perhaps two air line connections and two smaller 14.5v batteries. let me know if you have any questions, I would love to build one. I'll be hunting for supplies. Cheers!

My first version was build with a pond air pump. But this type of pumps deliver too less air. See my video "Hookah Diving @ Embudu, Maledives Febr 2017" on KZbin. This one was simply too weak. I could dive about 3 to 4 meters relaxed and max. 7.5 meters breathing very economical. And also: My grandson would like together with his grandpa. With this new DIY pump we can dive together up to 10m deep for almost one hour ...

Hello again.. After careful thought, I am very interested to build a Hookha system like yours. If you do not mind, could you please tell me where to get similar piston pumps like yours? I have access to an old mobility scooter with a 24v dc motor, with wiring and a 24v charging system. Sorry for my late reply. Since 8 weeks I'm working at a completely different project that sucks a lot of time... As you mentioned the first thing to solve is to get a pump that matches the needs. Because I didn’t find somewhat suitable to buy I took a common car tire foot pump like this: www.ebay.de/itm/FUsLUFTPUMPE-Pumpe-Adapter-Manometer-Fahrrad-Auto-Luftpumpe-2-Zylinder/132218772249 and rebuilt it. But because the pistons where melting after a while diving, I made them similar from aluminum. Than you need a powerful motor of about 120W and a gear to get about 200rpm. How it is build you see in the video. To control the motor speed according to the wanted output air pressure I use a PWM controller like this: www.ebay.de/itm/6-90V-15A-DC-Motor-Speed-Controller-Pulse-Width-PWM-Speed-Regulator-Switch-Neu/273208689185 It’s important to have a 0…5V input to control PWM. Also I use a pressure sensor like this: www.aliexpress.com/item/4000097326922.html choose the 100psi version. Between the sensor and the PWM controller I designed a tiny interface to match the voltage range to the desired pump pressure. Unfortunately I can’t find the circuit diagram anymore… The batteries I use are two pieces of LiPo-Battery-Packs 14.8V / 5500mAh (81.4Ah) which are allowed to carry in airplanes (max.100Ah).

Because the motor is regulated via a pressure sensor. If 1.5 bar are reached the motor starts to run more slowly. That saves energy and the system is not burdened as much.

No. I changed the plastic pistons by self-made aluminium ones...
