#1 Our homestead came with pipes in the ground for a 16' x 50' greenhouse. It also had water lines run from the farm well (which also needed to be restored) and a 60 amp electric service. In this video we're installing the 1.25" EMT conduit that will serve as the frame. In future videos we'll frame the end walls, run electric, and get the plastic cover on in time for winter.
10' pipes, no cutting. The two outer angles are 117.3. The ridge angle is 125.4. Sides are 6' tall. Just over 10' to the ridge. 16' wide.

What I like is that the sides are tall enough that if you grow tomatoes you are not losing a row of plants on each side. That is important in a Greenhouse as you need to maximize footage.

You have inspired me. I think that I am going to give this a shot. It seems like a really fun process with a little bit of time , labor, and money. I have watched your videos twice over and read a lot of the comments to help guide me. I am looking forward to this journey! Thank you.

Thank you for the comments - and for watching. If you have the resources, try to go with larger manifold pipes and fans. The system really does work, but our regret will be that we didn't design it to push more air through the earth battery. We did the best we could based on what we knew at the time and the resources we had, but still we would make those changes if we could.

I live in an extremely windy State one tip to help. Fill those pipes up with sand it makes them stronger and heavier so that way they stay on the ground.

Wow! Thanks for watching. Hopefully, the videos have gotten better. If you do end up doing this, especially the earth battery part, read the comments on the later videos and let me suggest way oversizing everything on that system. Think ours (on this first greenhouse) is going to be a bit undersized based on what many folks are saying - although we built it to the specs a lot of people have shared. Let us know if you have any questions.

I like this build. My question is: did the couplers play hell with the plastic ? I was thinking that you could grind-off the raised part of each coupler on the side where it would come in contact with the plastic-- but didn't know if it was necessary. What are your thoughts ? Thanks

OK after watching over half of the builds. I didn't run across the dirt work and side railings setup. Did you use a transit to set up? Did you square the area up by using the pull across corner to corner method? Also why did you leave that out? Thank You in advance for all that you did do and show. I'm starting our greenhouse this summer for next year. Looking at a many builds I could find. Awaiting answers.
@StIsidoresFarm

We purchased what was an abandoned farm four years ago. Previous owners put in the infrastructure for the greenhouses (pipes in ground, water, power). They removed the hoop house long before we bought it. So we rebuilt and renovated what they had in place. We added the side railings. They are just attached with 1.25" EMT metal straps. Best wishes on your greenhouse build.

@StIsidoresFarm 7 жыл бұрын
Nicole, sorry for the delay in reply. You could use the same angles. To make it 20' wide, you would have to cut additional lengths of pipe for each section, unless you we're going to make the whole thing much taller.

The fact that you actually put the angles and measurements in the info calls for two thumbs up :) I have to ask though, what is the name brand of the manual tube bender? I can't seem to find one that big. 1 1/4 or 1 1/2 I'm guessing?

@@1231dre I found one on E-bay a while back but didn't get it in time. Honestly I ended up going with 1 1/2 plastic conduit for one that ended up being temporary and I built a wood gothic frame for a small permanent one. I would still like to do a big metal one some day but I'm just going to make a jig unless I can magically find one again.

love the video! How much 1-1/4" EMT did it require to build this size high tunnel? and on your bends, are you marking at 5' since they are 10ft? Thank you
@StIsidoresFarm
@StIsidoresFarm 7 жыл бұрын
There are three 10' pipes in each section/arch. Each arch is about 2' apart, and the greenhouse if 50' long. So 26 arches = 78 pipes. The first bend is 6' off the ground and the greenhouse is 16' wide. Hope that helps. Also, we bought the pipe bender on eBay for less than what a smaller diameter pipe bender cost new at Lowe's. Thanks for watching!

It is a EMT electrical pipe bender. It can be purchased at any electric supply house or maybe home depot. If you get one make sure it has a foot pedal because 1 1/4" pipe will not be easy to bend. Just my opinion. I am an industrial electrician of 30 years so spend the money up front and the work will be easier.

@StIsidoresFarm
@StIsidoresFarm 6 жыл бұрын
Yes, several huge old mimosa trees on our farm - great for our honey bees mid-summer. The grant was from CCOF (California Certified Organic Farmers) through the FFA (Future Farmers of America). She ended up helping to pay for and reconstruct our farmer well. Her younger brother was just awarded the same grant from CCOF and has helped pay for the completion of this greenhouse if you fast forward in the series.
