My Neighbor Freezes the Bubble wrap and puts it on her windows where the Sun Mostly Shines in..She leaves them Frozen overnight and puts them On at 7AM before it gets Hot in the Summer.. It's been working for her.. Cools down her house until Night in the great State of Texas

The air bubbles are the insulators. So simple sheets may not work. You may try tinted sheets. It may reduce the entry of heat just like it works in cars.

Bubble side on window is more effective because the spaces between the bubbles also will act as an air lock. The concept is, an air gap between two surfaces prevents heat transfer.

The concept of sticking with water will work on glass only. Regarding effect on iron door windows, I think it may not work. But it may insulate the room and prevent heat loss if you are in a colder County.

In simple words, an air gap between two surfaces prevent heat transfer. If your house has a double wall, you will experience a cooler interior because of the air gap between the walls. In another words, if your roof has a layer of weathering material, your room will not be hot. Similarly, the air bubbles in the wrap acts as the heat shield and your room will be cooler than usual.

It is going to insulate. If you switch on your AC, the room will remain chill for longer, and in summers, it will longer for the room to get heat up. Theoretically should work on walls as well, but the look wouldn't be so great
